Just an idea to throw out, does it have to be at a track? The French Licke Resort in Indiana was very nice, or how about the museum village in the dearborn area with dueseys and all the rest...
Its been 3 or 4 years of tracks....maybe something with the wives? girlfriend or both?
Just a thought.....gtjoey1314

91% of the people that responded to a post-Rally survey answered that the track was either extremely important or somewhat important to their Rally experience. 1 person out of 56 responded that it was unimportant.

I don't think people will be as excited to drive their cars hard in 5-10 years. Maybe then. Plus, I don't know any other GT experience that is as fulfilling as getting in a GT with someone like Roketman or Specracer or Mark McGowan and being shown what the car is really capable of. Can't do that on the street. I let Mark McGowan take GEE-TEE around MMP in my car and I think a few laps with a Tier 4 Ford Motor Company driver in a 1000 hp Ford GT was probably worth the whole trip.

Hmmmmm?!?!?!? Sears Point you say!:rolleyes
Ah yes, a Drag Strip too!!! Road race track, drag strip, fantastic touring roads, fine wine, close enough to downtown S.F. yet far enough away...sounds like a no-brainer .:party

And I would think it is a bit more affordable. As much as I would like to see the next rally in the Greater Northeast area, Infenion would be worth the trip.:thumbsup
And yes, as someone else mentioned, before the kids go back to school.:thumbsup

PS: Also close enough for a quick 3 day houseboat rental on Shasta Lake!:beer2:

Please chime in......

My vote would be Miller first and Sears Point second. The full track at Miller is particularly well suited for the FGT and we happened to catch near record temps. Normally it should be at least 10 degrees cooler that time of year. The facility at Miller is hard to beat and its reasonably centrally located.

One more pitch.
I was at Road America a couple of weeks ago and ran on the 4 mile course. This track is great for FGT’s with long straights lots of elevation changes and is top notch facility. The Blue Harbor Resort and Spa, http://blueharborresort.com/ in Sheboygan appears to be top notch and is 20 miles away on Lake Michigan shore with secure access. Late August weather should be cooling down and pleasant.

Has there been a Rally in Vegas? Shelby American is having their next event at Spring Mountain in Pahrump. It looks like a nice track.

If having the race track experience is paramount then I'm not sure the Colorado high country would serve very well but if not, it is a spectacular place with some of the greatest driving roads out there. The yearly Vettes on the Rockies show that bases out of Breckenridge is always quite a show. There are hundreds of miles of day trip routes starting in Summit County and heading in all directions towards locations like Aspen, Crested Butte, Steamboat, and Rocky Mountain National Park.

Oh yeah! Steamboat would be a great place and they do have a track at least they do auto-cross. Remember they used to have the vintage racing there years ago but wasn't it on the streets? [I never went and don't go to the Mustang thing either, just too long of a time.]

Another would be Gateway, CO with the Hendricks museum. We might even be able to find out from him how to get the county sheriffs out of the way. Remember I posted here about how they had the FGT, Ferrari 360, Aston Martin DB9 and C'vette Z06's. They had some "arrangement".

My preference would be for a track though.

It's a shame that the old "Continental Divide Raceway" (1959-1981) at Castle Rock, CO, no longer exists! I'd go there in an instant...

There's a new road course east of Denver. See www.highplainsraceway.com 2.5 miles, 15 turns, and more elevation change than the old CDR. I hear it's a very challenging and safe track - but haven't run on it yet. Has anyone here run on High Plains? The downside for a rally is that it's an hour East of Denver, and the resort mountain towns are 1-2 hours West of Denver. Another local draw though is the Shelby museum in Boulder (shelbyamericancollection.org) and the McLaren museum (mathewscollection.com) near Denver .

WOW! I wasn't aware of it!! It looks like a great track - 2.5 miles, 15 turns!! And the weather would likely be great at rally time. Looks interesting. Would have great cruises to either the Steamboat area, Rocky Mountain National Park, or to the Breckenridge area. Worth looking into....

PS - Coors isn't that far away either....

Looks like CDR went the same way as Riverside. To bad the local governments and developers could not intergrade there use with there development plans.
I bet the revenue would be greater than the now half empty mall and office space out at Riverside.

Hmmm, post above sounds interesting about Highplains Raceway

Isn't that the truth? Riverside International Raceway owners would be multi-millionaires today if they'd held onto it; put in a couple of 18 hole golf courses in the infields, if they'd paved the additional layout to have the 5.2 mile circuit. I cry thinking about it. What a terrible waste!

I'll be going to the "Phil Hill Tribute" at the Peterson Automobile Museum to honor my friend next Thursday, 11/10, in Beverly Hills, and on Saturday, I'll probably go to the 2nd Annual Race Workers Reunion at RIAM (Riverside International Automotive Museum) on Saturday, 11/12.
