The car looks fabulous! BTW, how much weight saving going with headers, and how LOUD now?

Chip - awesome write-up and awesome pictures!

May be for welding in turbo oil return fittings ito the pan?

Yes, but not welding... drilling and threading turbo oil return fittings.

Fantastic post Chip. Thanks for the pictures, it is always a pleasure to modern-day artisans at work. Heffner and boys do an impressive job, I am sure it will bring miles and miles of smiles and smiles.

Life is short, have fun.

All the Heffner kits I have owned and seen have had them welded to the pan. It is a very clean and nice job though. Looks almost as if OEM.
Great build and story. You will love the TT system Chip. Be careful! :thumbsup

DJS,

Little if any weight savings. I included a photo of the stock cast iron exhaust manifolds which are amazingly thin and light weight. The stock catalytic converters weigh about three times more than the race cats you see welded into my exhaust system. And of course, for those rare owners who still have it, the stock muffler is huge and heavy.

The stock supercharger is a lot heavier than the 2 turbochargers so there is a weight savings there as well as lowering the center of gravity on the car.

I asked Jason how important the headers were to the performance of his turbo system. He told me they probably weren't that important but that aesthetics and purity demanded their inclusion. The entire system just looks more proper with those beautiful stainless steel headers.

The car is not any louder now than it was with my Accufab exhaust. The turbochargers break up the exhaust note and the catalytic converters mellow it a bit more. At startup, idle, and especially at full throttle, it sounds really serious. It has a great exhaust note.

Oil lines.

Great post, question, why did the oil pan come off? Would not think that would be opened...... Just curious...

Specracer,

The turbochargers are water cooled and so they have stainless steel oil lines and water lines running to them. Fittings were installed in the oil pan that attach to the oil return lines from the turbochargers.

Chip,

In AZ the rule is that if the car has historic plates OR has collector car insurance on it then it is emissions exempt. My GT along with the Pantera, the three Maseratis and a host of my other cars are emissions exempt in AZ.

Great post Chip, and congrats on getting the beast TT'd. Stock? Meh.

By the way, I don't know what "34" signifies to you, but perhaps you should consider changing it to "33" in deference to the build number of your Heffner TT??

Have a great 2010!!

Fabulous story and post Chip. Thanks for posting all the pictures as well. I just passed the "I'll just add the Whipple and New shocks stage". I think reading posts such as this make us dreamers, fantasize about future upgrades. Damn you, Chip. :lol:lol:lol

GREAT WRITE UP CHIP!! And Congrats on the conversion :biggrin

:cheers

I can tell you from my experience that going forward you have ruined your car driving experience that much more with the latest upgrade in that going back and driving pretty much anything else will feel like you are settling for something less...

Wish I had been able to meet you guys out in Florida while you were there but year end has been especially nuts on my end...

great pics, great write up... THANKS for sharing!!! :cheers

Thanks for the pics Chip. I wasn't fortunate enough to be able to watch Jason convert my Twin Turbo and it's interesting to see the procedure. No wonder he charges so much. It's a lot of work.

In case you ever wonder "would I have been just as happy with a Whipple?", I can tell you this. I have both a Whipple car and a Twin Turbo. While I love them both and they are uniquely different, if I am ever forced to sell one it will be the Whipple.

There is no substitute for power. In the world of Ford GT's, the Twin Turbo is the top of the food chain.

Congratulations.
