Rally 8 Scheduled September 3-7, 2013

Nice. Really nice!!

And I live in Detroit because......???

Im booked at the hotel and hope to get the hall pass...

A couple of pre-run shots courtesy of Ed Sim's beast:

I'm spoiled as this is my backyard. It's one of the reasons I put up with this crazy state. Now the wine country & coast are beautiful, as you can tell; but, the mountains & Lake Tahoe are amazing. That will be the Post-Rally drive.

Rally VIII Ed

Ok, here are a few photos from some of the roads we will drive at the Rally. It will be memorable. Life is too short so we hope this will be one of our life's highlights! Can't wait to see everyone!

OH my gosh, that looks awesome! Should be fun! The wife should love that ride!

Just spent 6 days bicycling in Sonoma including the PCH. Ready to go back in a car!

Warning: do not drive on Hwy 101 north of the city to Santa Rosa during rush hour! Bad, ugly traffic. Remember - I warned you. There are plenty of alternatives.
Concur with bad traffic north on 101 starting around Petaluma. Santa Rosa is a mess.

Take 101 North to Hwy 37 (to Sonoma/Vallejo) to Hwy 121. This will take you right by Sears Point (aka Infinion Raceway) and into the Sonoma Valley. You will end up on Arnold Drive and will just need to bang a right on Boyes Blvd (or one of the other streets connecting Arnold Drive and Hwy 12) to get to Boyes Springs and the hotel.

If you do find yourself stuck on Hwy 101 in the Rohnert Park area and want to escape the traffic, take the Rohnert Park Expressway exit and continue east on Rohnert Park Expressway to Petaluma Hill Road. Head north on Petaluma Hill Road and take one of my favorate set of back roads to Glen Ellen: Crane Canyon Road to Grange Road to Bennett Valley Road to Warm Springs Road to Arnold Drive.

One can always pick up Petaluma Hill Road in North Petaluma as well exit Old Redwood Highway and go Right.

Rohnert Park/Santa Rosa traffic picks up at 3 pm and is slow till after 6 if your by yourself. If your traveling with someone the HOV lanes still move pretty good. It is always a good rule to avoid bay area traffic after 3 pm though.

I would definitely recommend taking the Richmond Bridge over the Bay Bridge. The Bay Bridge will take you into the city of San Francisco and there is no highway/freeway in the city. The last exit before the Bay Bridge is 580 North and this is all freeway to the Richmond Bridge and to the 101 North.

Another route would be to take the 680 North in Dublin all the way till it merges with 80 West, a fun u turn highway off ramp. Once on 80 West take the first exit, highway 12. This will take you just to the south of the city of Napa and will continue West to Downtown Sonoma.

I'm crying in my beer cause I can't be involved with this rally. The posts remind me of "The Californians"... In a good way.

The GT is delivery miles, seats still in the wrappers.

SteveA thought they were toys on the back wall when we walked in :lol

They do look like toys. I hope that place isn't near a fault line, but it probably is.

WOW that is some collection.

I can guarantee you will enjoy it! Fords Forever!

Wow....

I'm impressed and in awe of this collection.

Really Special.

ATTENTION:

I just added one more batch of rooms to our block. It is VERY likely this is the last block of rooms we'll be able to get because we're already taking over a third of the property at this point. From here on out, once this last group of rooms is filled, I would presume that you'll probably have to pay the prevailing rate of if you want to stay on the property using the underground parking garage with the rest of the gang!

Thanks!

DBK, do we need to reserve covered parking or does it come with the room?

I'm not sure what the $ fee is, but they agreed that with the room block they would allow us to take the entire underground valet parking garage, so it's whatever the valet parking charge is. Like $20-25 I think. I checked it out and it's probably got a little over 100 spaces, so we should fit fine. They said they'd provide a hose and stuff for washing as well. When I started up Ed's GT in the garage it was enough to wake the dead. When we fire up several dozen at once...I hope the rest of the hotel guests are car fans. :lol
