Kerbed a rim, plus a tire question

Jeez

so I was parking ever so carefully today and barely kissed a kerb with my nearside front wheel. I now have a 2" gouge on the rim, plus the rim protector on the crappy Eagle is torn up. I cannot believe how such a tiny 'kiss' could do this, but there you are....
Anyway, does anyone have a new or unmarked-used front BBS for sale? Please pm me if you do (especially if you're in the Houston area!)
Alternatively, could the wheel be repaired to as-new? I know on my Cobra wheels with polished rims I was run off the road last year by a crazy lady in a pick-up; two wheels were gouged pretty badly, but were repaired by American Wheel so that I connot tell the difference. However, with a painted rim I'm not so sure - any feedback or recommendations?

The torn-up Eagle now offically gives me the excuse to swap out for Bridgstones before the Rally (I'm driving up from Houston). My Eagle rears are pretty bald anyway after 7000 miles, but the fronts seem as-new. I now think I'll go for the 345/35 rears and 265/35 fronts. By calculation, this will drop the front by about 0.5" and the rear by 0.3". I actually like this idea as it will help eliminate the unfortunate ever-so-slight rear-end down look that stock GTs have - that's always irriated me (guess I'm a hot-rodder who likes the nose-down rake). My big concern is whether the half-inch lowering at the front will completely screw-up the practicality of the car in everyday drivng, causing me to tear up the front splitter at every speed bump or parking garage ramp - anyone got good or bad experience with this configuration of Bridgestone?
Can't wait for Virginia!

Post a close up picture of your rim damage, You would be suprised at what can be repaired and yes you can just repaint it after the repair has been finished.

As for the Rim protector as you call it, that's not really what that is for. Actually that thick portion of the tire is so it dosen't grow in circumfrence and come off the rim at high speed.

There are some reputable wheel repair places. I wouldn't have a cracked or structurally damaged wheel repaired but if it is cosmetic I wouldn't worry about it being repaired. They usualy charge about $125-$150 and do a fairly good job. Call you local Ford dealer to get the number of who they use. I think Wheel Technologies is one in our area. Let me know if you need more info. Generally a 24hr turnaround. They are fast.

Sorry to hear about your rim mishap. Regarding tires, the front tire you want is a 265/40 and be sure to get the "N1 Porsche" variation to match the tread pattern of the rear Scuderia. The 265/40's are within .02 on diameter of the OEM tire. At the rear, the 345/35 Scuderia will have an on radius drop of only 0.2".

You should consider Blue Chroming the wheels, they look sharp and will cost you less than the rim.

Just for the record, Can't you buy The Optional BBS wheels new still?

Have you Blue Chromed your wheels? Would you please post a pic? It sounds pretty cool.

George aka MidniteBlu did and posted some pix here on the forum, they look awesome.

There should be a Keystone Automotive Co. in your area. They repair urethane bumpers and wheels. Keystone was purchased by LKQ Inc. so if you can't find Keystone, look for LKQ. They do good work.

I Thought that is what you told me, I am always surprised when I see some for sale, many used at or above MSRP and then find an SVO (oh yea, FRPP :bored) retailer offering them for $799 fronts and $899 rears.

FRPP does not have any (call them, you will find out). I would buy 5 sets today at that price if they could be had. Ford Racing can no longer sale the wheels. Its a FORD parts product only now and dealer cost on a set of BBS wheels is near $7k. Retail is $10k.

We have a couple new front wheels in boxes and also some new front wheels with the factory goodyear tires on them too. Give me a call tomorrow at 1-870-931-8004 and I can give you prices.

I believe you. I just added the simple comment Shadowman made with the "internet dealer" ads and came to that conclusion.

I love the wheels but not at that price. :bored

Wow! What is FGT tax on those wheels. I guess the smart owners stocked up while FRPP had them.

I too damaged a wheel and had a fellow repair it and paint it. Two years ago and I still cannot figure out which wheel was damaged.

I hit the curb on my 10 GT500, $1200.00 for new wheel and $200+ for the Eagle 1 tire

http://www.rimpro.com/index.html Talked with Adam( believe he is the owner) in Mass.. Send him a picture.. They have different locations.

BBS in Atlanta sold me a half pint of original paint for $30. Might get some BBS valve stems while your ordering.

I was and still am looking for one more rear to finish a set.

I have used these guys to straighten a wheel a while ago (non GT).
