I did both.

Very very nice. :thumbsup

The black and yellow is such a nice combination! :thumbsup

Quote for paint is about $100 per wheel including clear coat.

How much does powder coat run?

I'm sure the prices vary, but trying to get a ballpark idea.

How did you finish the wheel center caps Bill, did you powder coat those also? Is powder coat generally about as much as painting cost?

Your GT gives me chills everytime I see her. An impressive masterpiece you have created inside and out. And it looks like you always have something in the pipeline. Very cool.

Randy,
Powdercoating will cost you more than painting, but it sure would be my preference, as long as they can deliver the color you want. Powdercoating will be much more durable for a wheeel application. Before deciding on paint, I would check out some powdercoating companies near you in OC and talk to them about pricing and go see what surfaces they can deliver.

Randy,

We had our wheels painted at the same time the rest of the car was painted at Wet Works Garage in Costa Mesa.

I am absolutely amazed at how well their holding up considering the abuse our car has seen. Our wheels have been on and off a lot and even with all the handling and abuse they have absolutely no scratchs or problems.

Black Wheels

I have the factory optional black sport wheels on my Porsche. I'm pretty sure Porsche just paints them and they seem to be holding up fine. IMHO they look great on the Porsche but I wouldn't like the same look on my black/silver GT. But if you do go that route you need something on the outer rim to break up the black. Just my $.02 for what it's worth. :thumbsup

very nice Dave, why was the affair so short? I am sure torrid and hot, but less than satisfying

You are funny. I had the Ferrari from July 07 to March 08. Gave it back to AutoGallery.

Should have my 599 in sept.

But really want to get another GT. But would have to be Blue White Stripe.

Nothing like 650 RWHP on tap. That F430 was like a little go cart after the GT.

here is one with the blue center and polished edge

Great job Awsum! Did you take any outdoor, full car body pictures?

Polish first, then masked and painted (in non-polished areas), I assume? Is it hard to keep the polished part maintained? DId you have a separate polisher and then a painter?

They were polished 1st then masked and painted. Not to hard to maintain because it has not been out much lately. Full body photo soon... not posted yet.

I talked with Paul of Shoreline Motoring today, located in Huntington Beach.

He estimated powder coating a set of 4 factory wheels (sight unseen) at $1,000, including new tires mounted and balanced. They most likely sub out the work to a shop.

Painting estimate from an unrelated vendor (direct provider of service) was $400 set/4. (no mount/balance included).

Does the powder coating estimate seem high? Obviously some of the differential could be due to "value-added" markup and coordination...

Anyone have any thoughts on Shoreline Motoring?

I got mine powder coated for less that 400 dollars at a local shop they did a great job and it cost me 150 to mount the tires and balance them at a different shop. they used state of the are mounting and balancing machines that the reason for the extra cost. so to charge 1000 for powder coat mean they spend 500 for the wheels and they keep 500, just my 2 cents
