and how much it sold for?

I was told it was built in this color because it was the fastest :banana :banana :banana

Yellow

The pre-pre-production (mock up, no engine, etc) was Orange/black. Russo Steel or someone was auctioning it.

First color

The first car actually built at Wixom was PB1-1, yellow with black stripes VIN # 00037.
This was finished in the first few weeks of January 2004.

PB1-2 was Silver with black stripes. VIN# 00038. This was the one we used around the shop.:thumbsup

Awsum, there talking about pre-production, im taking tech's bet on this one. RIGHT TECH :thumbsup GTJOEY 1314

The GT mock-up that was recently sold at Russo and Steele was one of two pre-production concept prototypes.

This was the white, non-running mock-up. It sold for $198k to a car care company - look to see it in upcoming ads. This was VIN #GT40-1147; the second concept car, which had complete running gear, is GT40-1148. In the early stages of the game, there were plans to continue the number scheme from the old Ford GT40 program.

The car that Jay Leno drove onto the block at Monterey was NOT the car that the winning bidder was to receive - it was an early prototype. The winning bidder won the right to get the "first PRODUCTION GT" in his choice of colors and options. A retired Microsoft executive won the bidding ($557,000), and ordered unit #0010 in Midnight Blue Metallic with everything on it. (Jay Leno got #0012, in red and white, for himself).

The two concept prototypes were repainted in different colors several times - I've seen them in white, yellow, red, and Gulf colors.

regards,

Jeff

The pictures were taken Sept 14,2002

There were more than a few cars built before the Wixom shop opened.

While training at SSV in July of 03, I worked on CP-9 and several other CP cars. They were test mules, and crash test cars. They were mostly white, with a few black cars. Most, if not all of these early cars were built at Roush. By the time Wixom opened in Jan. 04, the cars were 99% production ready. I have pictures of CP cars I took while at SSV in 07-03.

I wrote down the colors and VINs for the first cars at Wixom. PB1-3 was Gulf Blue (no stripes) VIN # 00036. PB1-4 was Silver with no stripes, VIN # 00039:thumbsup

Clay brown, and it wasn't very fast.

Here are a few pics I have. I've got more, but I'll have to find them.:thumbsup

In 2002 at Concours Italiano I saw my first GT40 and it was yellow, I have pictures.

Bony, was that car a runner, or just a mock up? That could have been the one that ended up on the roof of Wixom.:thumbsup

I will ask DBK to post them. The car was a runner.

Ok Rich, tell us about the car I photo'd lots of very sweet features that never made it to the final production.

I am pretty sure that yellow Concept car that Bony saw at Pebble Beach in 2002 is the same car I shot at Pebble Beach in 2003:

......just repainted red. It also was shown in red at Ford's 100th Anniversary Celebration in Dearborn in June, 2003. I hate to think they tore it up and made the roof-top display out of it.

The other car, that did not have a drive-train, was originally given to the guys at Safir GT40 Spares in return for use of the GT40 labeling that Ford had already prepared for the January, 2002 Detroit Auto Show.

Hey Jeff:biggrin
You mean Ford learned from Carroll to repaint the prototypes?:lol
I never rapped my fingers on the car, I ass-ume they were fiberglass?
Where is Rich when we need him?:biggrin
Stay warm.
Cheers,
daniel

WOW!! Love the bundle of snakes on the yellow car even if they don't cross over. Now that would have been a great factory install.
