That one's easy to answer: insufficient room.
(Besides, because the GT is supercharged, there was no NEED from an exhaust efficiency standpoint.)

1) How close was the decision to build the GT vs. the '49 Ford as Ford's choice of it's centennial car?
2) How did the GT ever get approved (through Ford 'legal' and 'financial' functions) for production?
Hint: the answers may not be so obvious, while some names are consistently credited, there are a few opinion leaders & contributors that decided to take the risk. Send them a Holiday card and Thank them! :wink
Oh, and #3 for extra credit: I don't expect anyone to actually answer, but what was the program budget for the car and did it break even (financially)?

Think I heard it was the roll up windows because of the shape / angle of the door and still keeping true to the design. We'll see.
I remember reading an article stating that very fact. It was a REAL BEAR figuring out just how to accomplish that.

Thank you too for actual inside graphical data of your Vmax run. Hearing true-to-life stories of the development of our cars from the likes of you, Alex, Tom, Fred, Camilo, Kip, Rich, Dennis, etc. is what makes this forum such a special place for all us owners.
The graphical data in the time range of 445 thru 590 seconds is of interest. Your throttle position indicates you were at Wide Open Throttle (WOT) during the period and thus it appears there was no transmission gear changes. Most probably in 5th gear. Yet during this same time period there was a significant slope change in the acceleration (delta velocity / delta time). The acceleration rate to Vmax between 445 - 480sec is significantly different than the acceleration between 480-570sec when you achieved 212 mph. Since aero drag is a "speed squared" function one would think the acceleration rate would follow a typical square function throughout the full time spectrum (445-590) and not show two distinct linear rates through the Vmax accel period.
Any thoughts on what gave you the "extra acceleration" during this run?

Although the original GT40s had two openings in the front deck lid to exhaust radiator fan air, the GT40s that raced at Le Mans had a single larger opening in that front deck lid.
1. Was there a reason other than styling (you preferred the look) that you chose the two opening design other than a single opening race car design for the new Ford GT?

I have read that most of the aerodynamic work was confined to the bottom of the car so that the signature look of the GT40 could remain intact. So my second question is.....
2. After wind tunnel testing was finished were there any changes incorporated into the shape of the body panels to improve aerodynamics other than the addition of the wicker to the rear spoiler?

Yes - a low fuel light that was spelled correctly. When the light comes on, notice the spelling.
Gotta love it - 160K car that needed spelling corrections :cheers
