Lack Performance on the bottom end?

GT power loss

Happy Feet - have you checked your plugs? My GT loses power if the plugs get too old (4000+ miles for my engine/boost). In 4th gear at 80mph it'll light up the tires & leave a rubber smoke cloud (800+hp mods with Stillen gears).

The GT has a great chassis.

I would have to mash the throttle at a very high RPM in first gear to induce any wheelspin when I had a pulley/tune. Try getting it up to 5500rpm in 1st and going WOT.
If you still aren't getting any wheel spin, then something might be wrong.

It depends on the weather too. When my car was stock it would rarely spin the tires, period. When it had the pulley and tune, it would generally spin the tires in first at least a little no matter what, barring extreme heat. When it was cold out, it would blow off the tires in first and in second.

I probably don't need to tell you this, but you don't need to be hammering it while trying to watch a boost gauge. If you plan on doing that, get a passenger to watch.

Dyno it...... no guessing then

Good point DBK. Sometimes I take for granted that all people should use common sense. :)

Here in FL I didn't get much spin when I was stock. I get some now with a pulley and tune, but not TOO much. CA is warm and dry so your tires should stick pretty good on that CA asphalt. Check to boost, you should get 12 stock and 15 with a pully/tune.

Last thing, let another owner help you compare.

I usually get spin in the second half of the rpm's.

First, thank you all for the advise. I think it just good hookup like Kendall, DBK and SuperB have stated. The boost pegs 15psi when I put the hammer down (side note my God is it fast) in 1st, 2nd and in 3rd. Over here in California it has been around 100 Degrees where I live and very dry. Trying to figure out a date when I can hook up with Kendall or meet HHGT since he stated that he lives 20 minutes from the house.

Not sure if "tire age" has been discussed but while driving a family members GT on aoriginal set of Goodyears with less than 1000 miles on them the car got very loose in 1st and some spin in 2nd. It felt faster with more wheel spin than my car with 685hp! (I'm running 19 & 20's with PSII's). Then installed a fresh set of Goodyears and the car hooked up again and felt slower.

Got your email and I will give you a call. My Red GT is at Kendall's and I'm thinking of a meeting place somewhere in Pasadena on the way back. I'll need to find out when Kendall will be done with her first.

An alternative is to meet you in Pasadena and ride with you to Kendall's and then cruise back together.

I had a pulley & tune done, while I can feel the added performance, I have not experienced the level of "silly-performance" described by some of you, i.e, smoking the tires in 1st and 2nd. Given, I have never dropped the clutch in an attempt to induce wheel spin, I've tried 2 or 3 times to floor the gas to the mat in 1st when the car was rolling at 25-30mph without any wheel spin, let alone any wheel spin in 2nd gear.

I'll have try the suggested test in the next day or two to see if the boost gets to ~15psi from a rolling 3rd gear suggested here. Being in the SF Bay Area, my climate is even more mild than that of FL, AZ or So Cal. Will post update after my test.

Happy,

My car has a pully & tune and from a rolling start if I step on the gas (with the clutch all the way out) it smokes the tires in 1st and 2nd. I get so much wheelspin the car is dangerous if I'm not going straight. Something is wrong with your car. I can't get mine to hook up until 3rd gear.

What's the deal with this?

GTED,

That's strange. I have never dropped the clutch in my car either. I ease the clutch out and after the car is rolling (clutch out all the way) I can not floor the gas pedal without breaking the back tires loose with huge wheelspin. I just put Hoosier R-6s on my car to try to get it to hook up. If you go to Rally IV let's take my car out and see what you think.

Thanks for the offer! I got that little annoyance called work and board meetings in mid-Oct.....:bored Wished I could attend the Rally.

Now, I'm completely intriqued; I might have to try the test this evening. Assuming the boost gauge is reasonably accurate, if the needle touches 12-15psi, then, should I assume I'm not leaving any performance on the table even without the wheel spin? Short of having the car dyno'd, is there any other suggested tests?

To be clear, I'm not suggesting my car and the mods are not performing well; I'm just curious as to why some of us experienced some silly rubber burning bottom oomph, while some are not, eventhough each car/engine/mods is slightly different. The inquiring mind wants to know.

IMHO burnouts from a roll are not the best indicator, as the tires, road and weather conditions make comparisons difficult. When my car was bone stock it would not break the tires loose from a roll even in 1st. I was surprised from everything I heard about the cars. I now have a Whipple and 3.9 gears and the tire will lets loose in 1st and 2nd under most conditions if I turn traction control off with GYs.

Traction Control???

......if I turn traction control off with GYs.

Am I missing something??? I have a traction control button in my Mustangs but I have never seen one in my GT??? :confused

I think it is the one that goes under your right foot...:rofl

I also wonder about this power delivery. What RPM does it really start to be a problem for tire spin? I know the boost gauge is not reading accurately since I have changed stuff. Since this is the first supercharged car I have owned, I am not sure what to expect in the way of power delivery.
I have the 4.0 Whipple and have only put about 100 miles on the car since I got it from Shelby. I have been very cautious, but the few times I have hit it pretty hard in second, it gave me no indication of crazy wheel spin. Just a smooth rush of acceleration. I have stock Goodyears so I was expecting to have the back end get loose like it did on the Corvettes I had with these Goodyear R/Fs.
Thanks!
TC

I just got new goodyears yesterday and it sticks really well now, not easy to break them loose, but I can do it in first from a rolling start.

Chip, I have something similar to what you can see here at Shadowman's shop. But my wiring isn't anywhere near as nice as Shadowmans and I didn't use the top line Deutsch connectors.

Yes, you are missing something. In another thread, Clinton, Ed (the special one, so he self claimed :rofl) and the Shadowman have been working on the system, with Clinton's as the prototype.

I have Heffner pulley tune and exhaust with original Goodyears. My car will spin rear tires from a roll in first with ridiculous ease. Can feel wheelspin in second with full throttle as boost comes on about halfway to redline. This is in fairly warm Florida temps. Car feels much looser after pulley and tune in first and second. Third hooks up very well. If I feather the throttle, I can hook up pretty well in first and second.
