Many owners cars are due for a 3-year maintenance which is really pretty minor stuff - certainly compared to other cars in this exclusive segment.

One of the more important 3-year maintenance tasks is to drain and re-fill the cooling system with a fresh anti-freeze mix. To do so, the front splitter needs to be removed as well a protective metal plate under radiators. Having done this procedure on several cars recently, we have noticed a few of these cars with AC lines that are close to or in contact with reinforcement plates of the radiator. On a car we have on the lift right now, this contact has visibly chaffed away part of the AC line and left unattended would no doubt cause a failure of the AC in the not too distant future.

The moral of this story is that when you are doing your 3-year service procedures, make sure you look around and look at this area specifically to make sure that you don't have the same or similar problem developing.

Below is a couple of pictures of the AC lines. From the photos, it is hard to see the beginnings of a cut on the line - but it is there. We addressed the problem by gently re-positioning the line to have 1/4" of clearance and then adding a section of reinforced heater hose to act as an additional safeguard.

Good to know!:thumbsup

Thank you very much Kendall!

While we are on the topic of 3 Year Maintenance, I am about to embark on installing all the gear that I have acquired from you and Shadowman in the past.

Do you know where one could find a check list of all the items that need to be addressed at the 3rd year check-up?

Thx Kendall for the tip. It was great speaking with you Fri.
Mike

Thanks for the heads up Kendall. We'll be visiting that area tomorrow and will advise you if we find the similair layout.
John

So Kendall, to make it simpler for all of us, what is involved with the 3 yr. check up?

Damn, what bad luck. I just had those panels off a few days ago. I would have be great to read this before I put them back on.

Good post

Thank you Kendall

You're supposed to replace the oil pump drive belt whenever you remove it to replace other belts. I always have them on hand.

Can somebody generate the "big" list of the 36 mo. reccomended maintenance for us lazy bastards who can't find the owners manual....

Today I know of:
1- Oil
2- Coolant (with vaccum pump to insure air is evacuated)
3- Oil pump belt
4 - ?

For me I am going to replace all of the fluids through out the vehicle, transaxle oil, clutch and brake fluid just to make sure.

3 year maintenance

I will have to double check the owners manual but this is what we have been doing lately on our 3 year maintenance program.

Engine oil and filter change (Ford oil only)
Transmission fluid change (Ford oil only)
Brake fluild change (Ford DOT 4 or Super Blue)
Clutch fluid change (Ford DOT 4 or Super Blue)
Intercooler coolant change (Using the vac/fill tool that we have been using since 2004 in development)
Engine coolant change (Using the vac/fill tool that we have been using since 2004 in development)
Overall inpsection on clamps, hoses, half shaft nuts, wheel torques since the belly pans and wheels will be off.
