How many cars out there are titled as 04's ?

For being a test mule, sure looks to be in good shape.

CP4 was my ride and handling car. It was used exclusively by my development team (Jeff Walsh, Jamie Cullen’s, Chris White, Scott Ahlman and self). Was the first GT to get to 200 mph (Michigan proving grounds) Note that the frame is twisted as a result of a test gone bad. Remember the day well, made Dennis Breitenbach cry that day.

Mark, :bow Was that the one Fred stuffed into the guard rail in Ohio? The trailer brought it to Wixom before it went to Roush for repairs, so we got to see it. Quite the mess.

No that was another car. CP4 never got stuffed so all the body panels are original. I am glad that this car survived, as it has a very significant history. Literally lived in that car. Lots of good stories go with that car.

I would love to hear the story around this car. :biggrin

Sounds like good Rally material to me!! :beer2:

Any idea what the car will bring?

The car that got wrecked and is back together is in a museum in mid u.s somehwere. Had frame damage and one wheel is a considerable amount off in length. Right front if I heard the story correct.

J4-1

That was J4-1 as we called it, VIN 117 I believe. We fixed it after Freds accident (same frame) then about 2 months later another FORD excutive had it out for the weekend and found a light pole backwards at about 70mph in the left rear. That time it had a new frame put on it. Car is sitting at Ford currently, just seen it not too long ago.

Here is a photo of CP4 doing the same test that did her in many months later

What about the test was it that actually busted the car Mark?

Dbk, Do you remember what was left of Freds car.....At his retirement the parts left over became a lamp for a gift............gtjoey1314

Braking with 5 psi in the tires?

Braking with 5 psi in the tires?

I noticed that. What is with the tires? Checking out some run flats?

Bring photos and stories to the rally please!

I'm glad the yellow tint on the headlights did not remain.

McGowan's yellow tint on the seat remains.

The test was called, “Tire rapid deflation”. In a nut shell you drive the vehicle going 60 mph over some really large spikes that are welded to a big plate that is bolted to the track surface (see photo). Preference is to do the right side as the spikes pass under the drives seat. You spike the tires and bring the vehicle to a controlled stop. Had run this test about 3 times but we needed to do it one more time, as we released a new tire construction. The test was conducted at our Michigan Proving Grounds (MPG), Jeff Walsh was the driver. Well Jeff hit the spikes with the right front tire, but the spikes were bigger that what we used before (all previous testing was done at our APG Yuca track). The spikes went through the tire through the right front rim and proceeded to rip the plate out of the track. The plate kicked up under the car and propelled the car skyward. The car came down hard and upright but it hurt the right front pretty bad not to mention the bottom of the car is banged up. Dennis Breitenbach would know the extent of the damage as this was his baby for the entire life of the program. My Ride and Handling engineers gave Dennis a detail model of CP4 at the end of the program for all his work on her. That being said, CP4 was THE Ride and Handling car for the program. It was the first GT to get to 200 mph (Jeff Walsh @ MPG). It is a very significant car from the program and I hope someone from the forum gets it and has it repaired. I just want to make sure that everyone on the GT Forum knows what they are getting before they bid. Would love to see it back on the track as this car is tied in my book with CP15. Being a CP it is not a street legal vehicle.

That's a great story, many thanks!

As always, FANTASTIC to have the guys who built and tested our cars right here!!

I did that test once, by accident, returning the rental car at the airport. Speeds were a bit less than 60 mph tho. :biggrin
