Kendall, I 'm very interested, thanks!

It only blocks the speedo above 160mph.

That's a real problem, though! :biggrin :biggrin

I am currently using a bulky Tom Tom Go 700 unit suction cup mounted to the Speedometer, but after reading all the information in this thread, I have decided to likely try the Garmin Nuvi 660 for the much sleeker form factor. Unfortunately I do not have the Mac with the audio input capability.

I have a nav system in my GTX1 , it was installed by Genaddi. I have not really had a chance to explore it yet but I doubt it has all the features you mention.

Thanks for the nav pic. That screen is awesome. No portable can compete with that. Great!

So you making any progress on the kit Kendall?

I ebayed my bulky Tom Tom unit and went to a Garmin Nuvi 660 unit, which I like much better.

Pimp out your Garmin Nuvi Icon by downloading custom icons:

Gps

I have a Garmin Nuvi, mount it with the supplied suction cup just under the rear view mirror. Unit is about the size of a deck of cards.

I have the Nuvi as well for the FGT. A very nice implementation. I've been using it on the front window glass. The speedometer mount is interesting (the GPS may even be able to display speed in lieu of the cars gauge - I never checked). But are you concerned that the suction may risk breaking the speedometer glass? Same for the voltmeter?

I have my Tom-Tom mounted via the suction cup on the speedo without problems. I have it set to give the mph read out as well.

The Nuvi can display speed. There is a board that displays a lot of information, such as remaining and elapsed and stopped time, and speed.

Be careful with mounting on instrument glass. The suction cups tend to leave a residue that is difficult to remove.

Pretty good and convenient location though.

How do you tell how fast you are going? Do you stick your finger out the window? :wink :biggrin

I think Bony estimates his speed by how fast the flashing red lights are disappearing behind him. He used to estimate his speed by the changing pitch of the sirens due to the dopper effect, but that method stopped after he got the headers.

:lol:biggrin:lol

I have the Nuvi 660 and it is great! In many ways it is superior to factory Navs!

Interesting read. I'm looking at purchasing the Nuvi 760 with Bluetooth or the 750 without Bluetooth. One feature that was important to me was they both actually say the street names for your next turn like the Street Pilot C550, but the Nuvi's have a larger screen 4.3 vice 3.5 which is a real help for us whose eyes aren't as good as they were when we were 20. Even though the Nuvi has a larger viewing screen, it seems overall smaller than the Street Pilot because the Nuvi's housing around the screen takes up less space.

I also like the Nuvi 750/760 ability to store 10 routes and to auto sort multiple destinations. Battery life is only 5 hours, but I figure it will be plugged into the cigarette lighter when it's in the car. I'll probably use the bean bag adapter rather than the suction cup to mount it on the dash - we'll see what I like the most after I try them both.

I agree, over time the speedo is going to get smudged / scratched. I wouldn't put it on there.

I haven't paid attention to what the instruments are covered with. Are the instruments covered with glass or some type of plastic that scratches easily. If plastic, what do you use to keep the plastic from discoloring and scratching?

Thanx To Redrich I got a JVC EXAD. It has a great nav, dvd /cd player Ipod hookup ,hands free blue-tooth and satellite radio.
Took the Mac out and stashed it!
Best part is I put the dvd from the year book in the dvd and let on lookers check it out when I have to stop !

I think thats the same model/ one that ENZO BTR (Karl) installed......

I just picked up a new Blackberry with GPS and the need for GPS in the FGT has diminished....:wink Did you get the GPS and all other treats working?
