Jack stand type recommendation.

Searched the threads...I see jack recommendations, but no specific type of jack stand. I would like to jack the car at the midline point, then insert stands at the factory jack points once its up. The jack stands I've seen have some type of craddle at the top. Does not seem that it would be very steady when placed against the factory points? See pic.

Suggestions?

I would suggest welding the round metal lift pad end off a std floor jack onto each jack stand...then putting "GT Saver's" custom 'plastic' lift pads atop THOSE.

GT Saver's pads are designed to fit inside a floor jack's round lifting pad and ALSO have a guide(?) molded into them which in turn fits securely into the GT's chassis lift point holes.

Well, what th' hey...if you decide to go that route, I have a pair I've never used. I'll "palm" those off on you for whatever I paid for 'em...and don't ask me what that was right now 'cause I have no clue! I'd hafta look it up! :lol

I'm sure there must be others on the board who have extras they'd pbly sell ya, too. One way or another you'll end up with a pair (or TWO) somehow if you decide to go that route.:wink

I use the same type of stand as shown in Post #1 - with some pieces of 1/2" or 3/4" plywood cut to fit in the inner section of the stand top. Works just fine.

I do the same as Ralphie. I am also a "hockey puck" guy when using the floor jack.

Nothing wrong with the jack stands in the photo at the start of the thread. I use the hockey puck for jacking in the center, jackstands as shown, and the GT Savers with the car lift.

I am soon going to purchase a lift. I've read a lot about different setups guys are using on here but wondered if I could ask for specifics. What model is this and what accessories are needed to be able to get all four wheels off the ground at the same time? Sorry for the hijack.

The lift I have is the WIDE Body lift as they show a 116 3/4" version the HD-9XW. It appears to be the same as I bought and found the tape measure to verify as I write this post. I had the option to move the non ram ramp further out 4" which is perfect for the FGT. With the FGT never compromise the width of the gal... Her hips are wide and flowing!

To get the wheels off the ground they had a rolling jack of which I have an older model that fits under a lowered FGT.... The new ones don't! Check with the Shadowman as he knows what will work as he stated this problem on earlier threads.

Other info sites for a lift is Garagejournal.com which I would go to if you needed to get caught up on the latest 4 post info is my recommendation.

BTW - I have no affiliation with Bendpak but I use it daily and am still happy after 2+ years...

Hocky puck works for me too. BTW, I have never jacked the car from the middle but this can probably save me the trouble of driving the car up on plywoods before having enough room to slide the jack under. Where exactly is a good point to jack from the middle? I need to raise the ride height a little and the rear is too low compared to the front of the car.

Personally, I prefer to park on top of MAD in NC and then have him huff and puff and .....

I've used these pucks on my ZO6, 4 pucks and 4 number 4 eye hooks. Have not tried them on the GT yet, but highly likely they'll work

Bruce there is a thread from some time ago that showed pictures of this exact jacking point for great reference.
It is located right where the firewall and side rail on the chassis meet.
