From what I understand the top speed controlled to 205 MPH, what is the RPM at the speed in 6th? Haven't had the chance to do it live

The car reaches 205 mph speed limiter in 5th gear doesn't it?

Yes, you're at about 6200-6300 at 205 in 5th. It's somewhere around there. 5th runs out at 217mph at the limiter if you've got the power. If you could run out 6th, you'd hit over 260mph. 205mph in 6th is about 5100-5200 rpm.

With all this speed limiter discussion I wonder how many of your GT Owners have removed the speed limiter on your car?

Does the Heffner tune remove the speed limiter?

That was my next question what would be the top speed in relation to RPM red Line? The amount of HP requiered to hit 260+ would be huge

Is disconecting the limiter hard to do? I heard that in Europe they don't have them.

Yeah, I'm not sure what you'd need to hit the 260. It may be possible to run it out with the power level Joe has.

I think the Heffner tune removes it Fubar, but I'm not sure. I don't believe it's a complex process if it doesn't.

I have a friend that ran one at silver state. He offered the following insights about a high speed run. The car has major mods.

He says 180 not bad
190 gets a tad nervous
200 getting light checking drawers
205 pinching cheeks, "This road sucks, crown, not a race track"
210 what am I doing hear?, it's starting to smell, damn
215 scared as hell and really starting to smell, need to back off
220 deep breath most concentration, "it's just the road, it's just the road"
223 Backing off really FN scared, rising in my seat.
Many deep breaths...cruise
Bathroom break

Thank you for sharing and taking me/us along vicariosly for the ride; now I can say "been there done that" as such I will never stretch her legs so far.

All the best........ be safe

Sounds like first hand experience...

So what have you "heard" a pullied car will top out at?

RWHP vs. MPH

This is a theoretical chart graphing RWHP vs. MPH. The assumptions are:

1. Stock RWHP is 500.
2. Stock top speed is 212.
3. Stock gearing in 5th was optimized for top speed.
4. All top speeds assume optimized gearing for the engine's power curve.

Of course the indicated top speed may not be the actual top speed which is probably lower than indicated.

I watched as tuner programed a friends car (Predator). Once he was in the cars computer removing the 205 limiter was as easy as a click on his key board and hand nothing to do with the tune it's self.

So the ideal time trial is to remove the speed limiter and put the car up against the Bugatti Veyron and then see who is the fastest car on the planet, nes't pas?

I've never tested anything past what a stock car will do, although it takes significantly less time to get there. Past 175 mph, a stock car slows noticeably, though still chugging alot faster than most sports cars at that speed. However, with the pulley, getting to 180mph takes nothing, and 200 is doable without absurb amounts of distance.

I'm told that you can bury the speedo with a pulley and tune by someone who has done it, but as Dave pointed out, the speedo could be inaccurate by as much as 9%. The GT speedo is pretty good, but GPS is the only way to verify.

If the car has about twice as much power as stock. :lol I've got the video of the Nardo testing, and it takes a bit to get to 208. The footage of 212 wasn't on the cd I have. The Veyron would be football fields ahead at that speed. I think a pullied/tune GT should take about 26-27 seconds to hit 186mph. A Veyron gets there in well under 20! :eek

To take on the Veyron, forget the pulleys and Whipple, go for a TT setup. It would be interesting to see what Piko's car would do against the Veyron. I think it would be prudent to do some more aerodynamic testing on any GT with 1000 hp+. Maybe next year the Veyron and Piko's car will both run the Texas Mile.

DBK, what are the chances of using that 2 mile airstrip at El Toro Field during the GT Rally to do some testing? Are we going to get some track time at El Toro?

I can tell you that El Toro will never stand for it, the surface is rough, not getting any better. It would not end well. Trust me, I know, lets just say a little birdie told me.

The problem with a Texas Mile type setup is that it's very acceleration dependent. A Veyron with AWD and 4300 will clobber a GT with Joe-type power on any kind of street tire over the initial distance. With only a mile to cover, that killer launch pretty much guarantees victory for the Bug.

Unfortunately, they aren't to keen on top speed at El Toro. It's actually going to cost quite a bit extra just to stretch the 1.2 miles into a larger distance for roadcourse. My head nearly flew off with glee when I saw how absolutely massive the runways are, but they quickly killed the idea of full blown standing miles. I'm told they don't even have access to the North-South runways...
