Brian:

Super Analysis.

If Miama area is final decision, and some would like to venture across alligator alley to the Collier Museum in Naples would assist in any way possible to make that happen. The last time I was there a few years ago, a race prepared GT 40 was on display. The alley is condusive to high speed driving. Generally, the Florida Highway Patrol works the alley with cars and an airplane.

Hey Al, That was on the list see post # 3

" That was on the list for day 3 ,,, After an hour of searching the net and a few phone calls it turns out the Musem is closed ..:frown "

Islamorada fish company? I enjoyed that.....

Key West is a long long long drive. 4-5 hours each way, full of traffic and no where to pass. A lunch somewhere on one of the other islands would be a better bet. Or, we can stuff a bunch of people on a 65' yacht and go to the bahamas for a day.

Brian,

You have done your homework. I hope DBK takes all of your recommendations into consideration.

Seems to me like a "can't miss" event with several options for families.
The Ally to Naples is a must.

JL

Option 2 sounds great but maybe not all the way to key west.

Islamorada fish company would be awesome...it does not get much nicer than the Florida keys.

Believe that the Collier can be available by special appointment, with prior planning.

Remember last years Rally poll?

Florida - North-South-East or West was not #2 on the list.

Rally 5 , Future Rally's, The Big Picture.

There is no doubt that are many great places to see and great race tracks to visit in this great country of ours. The last 3 rallies have been out west. I think it's fair to say It is time to have a rally East of the Mississippi. :biggrin

I hope that there will be many more years of Rallies and we can hit them all. But I want project out a few years. As we get older and our cars get older we may be less inclined to expose the GT's to track time or high speed run events.

We may not trust our skills and the GT's may become to valuable to expose them to such risks. Who knows in 10 years what our Rallies will look like. They may evolve to Static shows and leisure cruises thru the wine country. I hope not but it is something to think about.

Why do I bring this up. I like many of you like to attend car shows or events and you always get lots of attention. The first two questions most people ask is How fast will it go? And how fast have you driven it ? They even ask me this at the gas station :biggrin
Well I can tell you that there is a great sense of GT pride and an internal glow when you can answer these questions with " This is one of the handful of cars that will go over 200 MPH and I have had the opportunity to take it to 2** MPH "

I think there are many GT owners that want to do this at least one time. So they can answer the question yes the car will go over 200 MPH and I have done it,, :biggrin Not many people in this world can make that statement or will ever have the chance to do so. Miami is the place to make this happen.

I was looking in My crystal ball and I saw a bunch of GT owners, some were old and gray. They were sitting in their garages looking at their GT's that were enclosed in a glass bubble... huddled around the old men around were their children and grandchildren. ...It looks to be Christmas time (that or it was just the snow floating in my crystal ball) and a young Child asks " Well grandpa how fast will the car go? And how fast have you driven it ? "

The seasoned GT owner say's with pride " These cars were designed to travel safely at over 200 MPH ! Than the tone in his voice drops, a tear creeps into the corner of his eye and he says softly " But I never did experience that.." out of the corner of his other eye in the back of the garage he sees his old sled " Rose Bud " and weeps .. The crystal ball fades. End of story ! No go to bed !!..:rofl

If you really enjoyed the Rally 4 " Off street " events we have two facilities that would be equal to or greater than our Texas Events and let me explain why.

Stormcat...What a great itinerary!! Count me in for a South Florida and my personal first Rally! Great ideas and suggestions you have outlined:thumbsup:thumbsup Maybe the GT Guys could do some work down here before the Rally too?
Also, I would be happy to take a couple people fishing offshore (no charge) in my neck of the woods if any wanted to come.

Thank You CHIP!!!!! You are now my favorite moderator. Now, does anyone have a way to help me erase that visual from my memory banks, That doesn't involve battery acid? :willy

I'm not getting into a whole big thing about the location, but I can tell you I agree with what you said here, and this is why Texas was so hardcore. I told Rich and Dennis that the likelihood of guys being willing to take their car out and actually use them as anything but a centerpiece probably declines every year.

Car shows have their place, but while the GT is still fresh, they can wait. We've got a long time to sit around in parking lots and look (which, by the way, you can always do at the Rally anyways). So I don't think there will ever be as much driving again, or probably as much ass whuppings as Texas, but you can definitely plan on at least a few more years of the opportunity to take these things to the limit.

My car has rock chips and some sand blasting, but when I walk into the garage, whatever I've lost in value from usage couldn't possibly compare to what I've done behind the wheel of that car. It's just priceless. We had a number of guys go 200+ in Texas, and Texas World Speedway was just an absolute blast. It was as good as it gets. I think the plan for the everglades runway and a nearby track is a serious option for 2011.

I like your Rally plan, but as Mr. Larson pointed out, FL was not runner up last year, and it's still a long ways away from the upper east coast (and can I get a location so I don't have to scout 1600 miles away 3 times a year??? :lol )

200 mph in the rain could possibly make life more interesting.I would be in for that.:eek

Sam - you are always Welcome here.....

I love the Florida idea but I'm in for anywhere there is a 1 and 1/2 mile track. I'm much more into the straight line speed versus a twisty track and I think most of us have pretty much maxed out the one mile track. We need a longer track to really test the top speed of our cars.

That being said, North Carolina is beautiful country for touring and there's lots of stuff to do in that area. The Wheels Through Time museum in Maggie Valley is really amazing (if it's still open).

Isn't the Dragons Tail in that area?:eek

Maybe we should take a fresh vote on location preference since we may have a few new board members since the last vote?

Whatever, I don't want to miss another one.:thumbsup
