As some of you know my car ran perfectly until the roll races on Sunday. I had been dropping the clutch at 5500k rpm and doing burnouts on the sticky dry pavement with my Hoosier R6's all weekend. Well, it was show time for the roll races and the camera crew that was filming it asked for a good burnout for the camera. Who was I to argue? 5k rpm and let' er rip. Bango! axle let go. Weekend was over. Better it happen then instead of at some time during a run.

John Hennesseys crew has been working on my car for a couple of days and it is very likely going to be back together tomorrow night (3 days after they got it at their shop) so I can run a 1/4 event at his track that I am sponsoring. Big props to John's crew!

Here is a couple of pics of the carnage and a shot or two of the transmission internals. Love the last pic....that's Kevin the shop Manager at John's.

Inquiring minds want to know. What all did you have to replace? Was everything available at the dealer?

Now might be the time to consider Stillens lower first gear.

I put these parts on the car (no stock parts):

Brembo slotted front rotors from Shadowman
front brake pads (Shadowman recommended)
axles (Performance Power)
sub shafts (Performance Power) able to handle waaay more power than I am putting down

the axle was shot as were the front rotors. I'll post up pics of the rotors in a few days. Subshafts were not damaged but it was suggested to replace while replacing the axle.

Now might be the time to consider Stillens lower first gear.

with the power I am putting down the last thing I need is shorter gears in any way.

:eek

Yikes!!!

John

Hopefully, it is bulletproof now. Which clutch do you have?

Ive checked out the Performance Power website before and they seem to be really proud of their stuff.

I have a Spec clutch in mine now. I put it in when I did the TT kit.

Yep, the PP guys seem kinda proud of their stuff but there is not many options for the stuff I needed. Gotta pay to play.

Where's the axle?

All I see is a hole in the transaxle.......

What do the failed parts look like?

whatever in the first photo is broken.......that's what broke. If there is something else broken I have not been given photos.

I am with the other guys.

We do not have the entire story.

The first photo may be of the output flange?

Or it could be of the C/V joint . On the flange but without the bolts in place?
I do see a few CV balls in the grease? And maybe a torn boot?

I would also like more information.

Was the failed part Factory OEM stuff?

Were the bolts found loose on the inner CV ?

What is a speck clutch?

Fair enough....
But all I see is a bunch of grease in picture 1 and really no info in the other pictures.

Since you car is so fast and powerful (I very much enjoyed watching you run the mile!) some of us technicals are interested in the "weak link" of our car when the available power in increased by so much...

Post other pictures of failed components when and if available.
Thanks!

Looks like the half-shaft hub (tore right off the transmission) to me.

its another after market clutch available for our cars, other that the AP stillen,

JB, I can see that the half-shaft hub has a heavy grease in it but it also looks like you have a heavier oil in the crank case. Are you using something different as a transmission lubricant?

It's a special lubricant that doubles the surface area and improves traction. It's kinda like having wider tires on the rear of your car but for the transmission.

:wink

just kidding. I'm not sure if John's crew put something different in there.

Whew!
This was going to be an intersting topic...!
Thanks for the spoof.... (appropriate for this time of the year)

you so bad!...............................................:lol

Pic #1 is the CV joint, as Alex comments. I would have to guess the failure might have been removed, IE the spyder on the end of the axle shaft.

Going to be very interesting over time to see what breaks as components are improved and the weak link is shifted elsewhere.
