Horse of a Different Color

I really wanted silver/black, but I couldn't find one for the right price. There was actually one in Dallas when I was shopping, but the guy wanted STUPID money for it! Blue/white was my second choice, and that's what I ended up with. I love it, but I still think I prefer silver. Anyone want to trade? ;)

Reviewing the posts, owners appear to have purchased what they wanted, and as we know, several here have more than one car, and then there are those who have multiple GTs.

It is interesting the different impact the car makes in its various colors. There are a couple colors that I would not want, and I am not certain I would want the car if required to have it in those colors, but those same colors are very popular with other owners.

There is no question that unless I buy or trade for a Heritage, I'll always want one.

I originally wanted the white/blue, but ended up getting a good deal on my second choice, black/silver. I have, of course, decided the black/silver was a better choice for me.

The funny thing is, I thought the Heritage was... uh, a little hokey and the yellow was too loud. Then I saw them all together, in a row, at a little gathering here in Dallas. FANTASTIC! They are all beautiful, truly awe inspiring. I would have been happy with any of them.

Fubar:

I agree completely. I thought that the Heritage was rather a gimmick when first announced but after seeing one, intensely wanted it. While negotiating my way through almost a dozen GTs, it was never one being offered. I had just gotten out of a black car and found it very difficult in my climate to keep clean. I drove blue muscle cars "in the day" and did not want another (but it is what I wound up owning and liking a great deal). I very much liked the Tungsten (classy) and really liked the red. The other colors held less appeal for me.

If I had a car that was totally clean, I would have a black car like yours. If I had a car that required less demand of me, I would have a Tungsten. The interim position is a car that requires less than black and more than Tungsten.

Then again, if someone were tired of their Heritage and just had to have a midnight blue...

Tim,

You pose an interesting question.

Speaking from the experience of living in a 3 dimensional world, yet seeing in only 2 dimensions [which is as others such as yourself view television and movies]; as objects appear to get larger I know I am going faster than they are, and of course vice versa.

So if things are bigger in Texas, in fact I must be going faster, not slower.

Hence the Heritage must be the fastest GT available in our small Republic.

Now, being the last time I was in Europe was before the GT was made available to our friends over there, it is entirely possible that the Red with White Stripes are faster there [at least that is what Mrs. Sprit has told me, as well as Neil].

Hope this explanation was as clear as the Lone Star Beer [The National Beer Of Texas] I am about to drink.
:cheers

Fred:

I hate to intrude (well, not really, but it seems the polite thing to say), but as long as the Dixie Chicks are in Texas, no GT can be fast since they must slow down to hit them, back up and do that again.

I doubt that any "color" is faster than another. However, I do believe that wind resistance is a decided factor, and I know that although my car weighs 17 pounds more from Zaino products, they have, in fact, resulted in a faster slip stream.

Thus, it is truly not a matter of color; it is a matter of whose individual car is the fastest. That would, unquestionably, be my own.

I assure you that in Atlanta, you would be no faster than I. No one could be when you sit at a traffic light for 11 changes.

spirt The mrs. is right about red w/ white being fastest. I got cruizen so fast I lost my stripes so mine is just plain red now. And even faster with that weight savings :willy

Doc,

You’re not intruding; after all it’s your thread.

It was just Hi-Jacked by some insensitive type who just loves to have fun and doesn’t know about cyber educate. My apologies, I think, not sure, being you are joining in as well.

Dixie Chicks – MY A$$ - all of us know you NEVER SLOW DOWN when you are gona hit an ANIMAL in the road, it’ll just mess up yer truck [er GT]. Also, on the second pass, no need to back up, just spin a few donuts so they can’t smell you comin.

Now to get back on topic, as to the color thing, you said that “I do believe that wind resistance is a decided factor”; you know you may be right; there surely is a lot of hot air being blown around down here.

As for the Atlanta traffic, I have been considering a “Cow Catcher” for the front of the GT as True Southern personalization touch, providing both Esthetics + Functionality! What do you think? You may want to consider same, I’m sure it would solve some of your Big City problems with traffic. It may even be tax deductible as a “medical expense” due to its soothing effect on those stressed out city folks.

Todd,

DRAT – Once again I’m gona have to check into this RED w/ NO STRIPE THING. Sounds reasonable to me. However, Mrs. Spirit always has the LAST WORD!!

I would take a Heritage or a black (no stripes) with grey 20"/22" inch wheels a TT's as my 2nd GT...
But it's got to be red to be REAL fast...

BTW: Mine is a non Le Mans stripe car - but I had the stripes applied in vinyl, so I can always go back.

There is a reason it is called "Speed Yellow"......

Yellow has been proven both on Vipers (Race Yellow) and GT's to be the fastest color. Some will say it adds over 5MPH to the Top end. I know it is faster than my black one.....no doubt. Sorry...had to get the Viper pic in as well.

John (Roanoke) has a Copperhead that I would like but with prices in a free fall; it appears prudent to wait until after VOI9 when they may begin circling the financial drain.

John's a great guy. I have been buying Vipers from him since '92. Great prices at the moment. I expect that when the '08 comes out early next year at 95k+, '06 prices will hold fairly well. But who knows.

don't you guys know that those heavy stripes slow the cars down??
the stripeless cars are always quicker.

lamboman, if you come to Fresno we will have to put the 'no parking on the grass' sign out. That being said, beautiful GT and bitchin Vipers :wink

The committment to build the new motor and the contracts to do so have been in place for sometime.

What was not anticipated was the gross surplus of cars that are available at present. It is appreciable and daunting. Dealers are not ordering, and customers are not buying. And to put in the final nail is the severe drop in Daimler profits and their decision this week to cut back production.

The plans for the Gen IV cars, I believe, will be scrubbed. It is no longer financially sound. It is not a flagship for the company, and they will turn their attention to the Challenger (to compete with Mustang and Camaro).

The current Gen III cars will fall further in price as the new motor, fascia and hood are put on the cars this spring (and debuted in Las Vegas this month).

There are Gen III cars (verts) that have sold in the low 70s and rumors of some being cut loose in the upper 60s. I believe that this trend will continue. Gen III (my favorite...and we owned two of them) will depreciate the fastest while Gen I and II will show some mild but continuing appreciation due to increased rarity, and the nature of their "cartoonish" appearance (you have to love them).

I saw a very low mileage 2005 Gen III go for $52k in a private sale. I believe that this (low mileage used) will readily drop in the upper 40s after the new motor/fascia/hood appears.

It is saddening to see the demise, but when G---- let truck dealers have Vipers based upon raw sales (and not Viper sales), the cars languished in lots (which is how we got our first in 2004...new and 20k below MSRP...scarey.) It was a distribution error to have someone in Buttstop, WY with a truck dealership and no Viper tech selling the cars.

Nonetheless, I look forward to getting another when a deal arises.

to all those horses of a different color questions. I have sat behind on many a night and read allmost all the posts and found them very informative, especially those of eshrink,as a 47 year old,who works on automobiles as a profession for the last 31yrs,i too am wondering should i bite the bullit and do what i want and just throw caution to the wind! I can buy a 06 gt yellow with black stripes 3 miles on odometer for 5000.00 under sticker! I have spoken to many a wiser man than i and they have told me in life many never get their chance at bat,let alone being even picked to play on the team! I am not thinking of an investment here, hell i am a working class stiff who has his own small auto repair shop in chicago. Well i do not want to get to emotional its just a car right? Thanks again

Hello Jory,

I didn't buy as an investment either. Sure, I will be overjoyed if it does well.

I've never spent more than $50K on a car, although I love them dearly.

But, the more I researched the car, the more I knew I would try to get one.

Is it crazy? Yes. But I am happy that I have been able to make the decision.

I wish you luck. It is not an easy one. Many factors involved.

I'd like to say that there was more forethought into the color choice, but the black with no stripes was one of those available when I went to purchase. In retrospect, I am really happy with the choice and would do the same all over again. Now if another was to be added to the stable ... probably yellow or blue.

Glad to hear about another Black with no stripes. I carefully searched for just such a car.

I was beginning to wonder if anyone liked black.

It was a toss up between Blue and Black for me. I think the Red and White are really standouts too - but I wanted to go slightly stealthy.
