Note the that car is a UK version with 400 HP, US spec is only 286 HP. Maybe someone with more knowledge on this car can tell us what it would take to get it up to UK specs.
Fast for the money, but butt ugly! For the price it would make a good beater.

You are exactly right, for the price these cars are an excellent beater.:thumbsup
With only a few simple bolt on mods (boost control, exhaust, fuel pump, ecu flash) making over 300 whp w/ well over 300 foot pounds is not a problem, for less than $3000 total. Another $3000 on some chassis components/tuning has the Evo cornering at well over 1G, and dominating local track days here in sunny socal. My daily driver Evo has made well over 330 whp for over 45,000 miles with countless track days on it.
The key to reliability is not being greedy when a person gets used to having that amount of power daily, as these cars do not suffer foolish people easily. This has led to many an internet thread about warranties on heavily modded cars being declined.
I enjoy driving my friend's Ford GT, but end up missing my 'ricer' Evo every time I get trapped in the GT trying to park here in busy socal, or whack my head on the godforsaken door/roof sill.
If anyone here would like any Evo specific questions answered, I would be happy to help. Thanks.
