GTvs. EVO

I have to admit that thest Japanese rally cars are the "bomb". I have a Subaru Sti, 300 HP/ 300 ft/lb. stock, with mods, you can easily get 500 HP. I use it as my winter "beater". It provides great fun in the Winter when all the other fast hardware is sleeping for the season. Talk about drifts!!! I get all excited when it snows so I can throw it around in a snowing parking lot. It feels faster than anything I own due to the tuning and low/flat torque curve. Has anyone seen the pics of the new EVO? I WANT ONE!!! The styling next year is kick-ass. I would gladly trade in my boy-racer blue Suby Sti for a red Evo next year!

Chris..this has been an enlightening thread for me. Apparently, much to my surprise...I am in the minority for NOT being a closet Ricer!!

I am starting to worry that my Toyota powered Lotus makes me a Ricer. Oh the shame of it all...:frown :biggrin

Sooo, if you own one of them things....do you have to have a 8" fart tube sticking out the back where the exhuast is supposed to be?
:lol

There have been a few posts on this thread regarding shoddy treatment by the Mitsubishi Service Dept. to Evo drivers. I hear this also from time to time, usually from some enthusiast who has thousands of dollars of performance mods (usually self installed/tuned or done by someone else equally not up to the task) and blow something up. I don't know what they are expecting.

I wonder what Ford would do if I started modifying my GT and "shit happened" and I brought it to them under warrenty?

Edit- don't get me wrong, I'm still planning on getting mt GT modded so I can kick all your butts

LMAO!! At least you came out.

The first step is admitting it. I'm not sure what the second step is, but I'm gonna do it!:wink

I swear...I saw an exhaust pipe on one of them Ricers today that looked like it was 16" in diameter. Looked like the pipes they bury underground to carry the sewage.

If you can get laid driving an Evo you've really got Game:thumbsup

Lamboman, it's almost 9pm in your neck of the woods. You should stop spending so much time worring about all the ricers gunn'n for your poor little overmatched GT and start thinking of a way to keep your football coach from quitting and taking the U of Washington job! :lol

Stock Stage 2 exhaust. I guess there is hope for me.

I used to get laid when I had a 81 "Sky blue" Ford Fairmont!:biggrin

Now, that's game!:lol

Note the that car is a UK version with 400 HP, US spec is only 286 HP. Maybe someone with more knowledge on this car can tell us what it would take to get it up to UK specs.

Fast for the money, but butt ugly! For the price it would make a good beater.

You are exactly right, for the price these cars are an excellent beater.:thumbsup

With only a few simple bolt on mods (boost control, exhaust, fuel pump, ecu flash) making over 300 whp w/ well over 300 foot pounds is not a problem, for less than $3000 total. Another $3000 on some chassis components/tuning has the Evo cornering at well over 1G, and dominating local track days here in sunny socal. My daily driver Evo has made well over 330 whp for over 45,000 miles with countless track days on it.

The key to reliability is not being greedy when a person gets used to having that amount of power daily, as these cars do not suffer foolish people easily. This has led to many an internet thread about warranties on heavily modded cars being declined.

I enjoy driving my friend's Ford GT, but end up missing my 'ricer' Evo every time I get trapped in the GT trying to park here in busy socal, or whack my head on the godforsaken door/roof sill.

If anyone here would like any Evo specific questions answered, I would be happy to help. Thanks.

Was the video at Laguna Seca done with your "street" evo at ~330 hp. If so very impressive. I timed it at about 1:35 a lap, but I think your best lap times may be a little faster. I doubt with my abilities that I could do a 1:35 in my GT even with race tires. I probably can be done, but not by me.

No, that video is with our 'race' evo, which holds the lap record at Laguna at a 1:34.2 with 450whp.

It is far easier learning to drive at speed with the Evo's AWD advantage, compared to a big power RWD car...

My street evo is running in an event at Willow Springs today:

With a few more tweaks than the simple mods I listed, we shall see how it stacks up against formidible competition.

I have more in-car videos here, please right click, 'save target as':
