These aren't cheap, but GTJoey is right it's the best way to "attend" the races. This website has both the radio products and the frequencies that are used in Nascar & IRL. One caveat you should be aware of, or at least based on my past history, Team Penske does not broadcast on race day - for obvious reasons - race strategy, but others do and it can be quite interesting. The track size (enormous) also makes it a good tool to get perspective on events happening around the track. Some years, the "in cock-pit" stuff is really great.

Saturday Parking
BONY, with Dan M included and my ride I have 9 cars driving so far. Parking is fine (no caveats are implied by my posting). Weather permitting we should all drive, thats the reason to have these beauties! Just getting our ducks-in-a-row for their care......

Is there a model you recommend, I ass-ume you need one with a jack for noise cancelling headphones? How important are these scanners to the enjoyment of the event? Thanks for your patience in answering these dumb questions.:biggrin

There are no dumb questions, only the ones which I have had to learn the hard way! :ack
It is LOUD on the front straight - REAL LOUD. Conversation is about impossible past lap 3 when your voice is gone, so plan on listening, drinking or screaming at the folks next to you. Once the race starts, you won't be able to hear the race announcers - except in lulls between the passing cars. The scanner stuff is more for those who really want to know what is going on. Some good technical stuff for those who really want to know what goes through a drivers/teams head.
The race scanning is is best accomplished through a comfortable headset (tension band behind the back of your head vs. over the top of your head - keeps the weight distributed properly, best earcup fit, noise attentuation & keeps hair in place :biggrin ). You'll see both varieties with various manufacturers. I've never had/nor seen noise cancellation in these head sets, but its been awhile since I've been living at the track. Scanner mfr of choice is Uniden - they have a number of models. Race teams use dedicated two-way typ. Motorola.
Also, as I mentioned in a prior post, on race day some teams (Penske) encrypt transmission due to race strategy. Also important, it's a big track and you can't see the other end (or side). Executive summary: if you like the technical stuff & want to focus on the race its great fun.

Thanks to all those who have responded on whether they are driving their cars to the restaurant Sat evening. I would still like to hear from:

The dinner time will be 6pm Saturday evening at Dunnaway's Restaurant.

The restaurant is located downtown Indy only a short drive from the hotel.
Earlier in with this number of people a) helps the restaurant give us more individual attention, b) better enables our FGT parking all together and c) gets us home a bit earlier to retire for a BIG BIG day on Sunday! The banquet menu selected is the medium priced version ($69 +tax+20%gratuity) and offers a very good choice of fare. By the time the bar bill is included (they have a spectactular wine list for those so inclined) it will most probably be in the $120-$130 range as originally thought.
