Color and value in todays market

..........In any case, there are so many of these things that I don't think they'll ever carry a huge price tag.

:lol

Except (place your name here)'s GT will be worth the most, because he was smarter and had better taste than everyone else!:biggrin

much like real estate

How about a 151 Mile Heritage still on MSO?

I'll take that on a Gentlemen's bet.... :wink

Done. :biggrin I'll also define "huge" as significantly higher than MSRP adjusted for the pace of inflation.

I know it's certainly more desirable due to circumstance and the lack of a successor, but consider a Murcielago. That car just reached 4000 units over it's run and there are Murcielagos that are significantly cheaper than Ford GT's. 4000 is a pretty big number in the context of "rare".

We have definitely lost a big number to wrecks, and there are people like me that drive their car a ton and will never sell it, but it still has to be in the 3000 range. This is why ultimately, as Waxer pointed out, I don't think color will matter nearly as much in the future as mileage and condition.

30 years from now, if you have a Ford GT on MSO with almost no miles, you will have a big pile of money on your hands regardless of the color. You will have also wasted 30 years worth of driving memories (unless of course you have several, as many here do).

Interesting opinions on long range value. I'm thinking the BMW Z8 might be a predictor of future GT values...a 5 year look ahead if you will. Built in similar quantities (~5700 world wide 2000-2005, ~2400 in USA), design based off of heritage 507 design. Easy on the eyes. Listed for 128-130K new, now ~$90K w/ 10K miles?

BMW Z8? Apples and Oranges IMHO. This is my opinion and my opinion only. The GT is a rare breed. It moves people like very few cars ever produced. Sure there are cars with better engineering and performance but do they have "it"? This car has "it". Pull into any car show. There can be Ferraris, Porsches, Lambos, you name it. Everyone turns and looks and gives the GT that look. It's a primal covetous look. Few cars illicit that. I have no idea what the car will be worth in 20 years. There are better places to invest your money if that is of high importance. I don't think the day will ever come where you'll be able to buy a GT for $69k like you can a lot of Ferraris, Porsches, and soon to be Lambos. They don't have "it" sorry.

Not many cars will beat inflation after storage, maintenance, insurance costs and capital gains taxes are factored in. The FGT definitely will not.

After 30 years the state of CA and most likely the Feds too won't allow you to license a gas guzzling, pollution spewing pig like the FGT for use on the public roads! A FGT on MSO will be only a museum show piece or a garage queen. The low mileage ones ones that are registered and can actually be driven will be worth more!

Unlikely. Can't say what will happen with the Nazis in CA but rarely does the Fed legislate backwards. They may try to buy you out but the scenario you described won't happen.

You must have a very short memory, or don't pay income taxes. Bill Clinton's retroactive tax increase in 1993!

CA has already passed many laws that make what was legal in the past illegal in the future. Guns are a good example, or just using the fireplace in your home.

I'm not going to argue you with but to compare wood burning bans which we have at times in Denver to the outright prohibition of driving a car built today on public streets in 30s years is uh well...:cheers

You are assuming the State of California knows of all unregistered GTs or other other unregistered vehicles for that matter. Friends with DLR plates are good friends to have. :biggrin:biggrin

My Heritage is a Faberge Egg Chris...:eek:eek

I think I just heard Denise calling you to stop and pick up some Milk, Bread & Butter on your way home. :lol:lol:lol

Where else on the net can a NOOB start a thread and get 12 pages of responses in a few days? Only the FGT Forum! :)

Luke, I think you are agreeing with me. :biggrin

When an owner bought a home with a fireplace, he/she were free to use the fireplace whenever they wished to, some years in the future the government decides to forbid the use of the fireplace they used freely for years because of pollution reasons. The same logic could easily be applied to a car 30 years out of production and that has never be registered for use on the public roads.

Any government that can take almost half of a working man's earnings, can do just about anything!

My advice: pull the trigger. The best decision I made was buying it.
Spring is here; and summer is next...that will drive up prices more than anything.

I have not met one owner who regretted it, in 4yrs of ownership.
You will get a lot of opinions; mostly from people who drive mini-vans or in-laws.

Alot of the naysayers will quickly close their mouths, once you are an owner.
The respect that comes with ownership is imeasurable.

I have been looking/laughing/being entertained by the way this thread has darted this way and that.

What I have learned in my two years as a GT owner is this. There are people who want to say that they own/owned a GT and there are people who want to be a driver of a GT. So if you want to drive, buy what you want, live the best driving experience there is and forget the rest. If you want to be a short term owner for the ability to add this to your car resume.....well......to each his own. :wink :cheers

BTW....It does always crack me up a bit that Heritage comes in first for price. It should, it was the most expensive sticker price because of the 15K paint option. :lol Oh yeah, and don't mess with Shelby, that is a guy who knows the GT.

Donnymac, your custom yellow GT :thumbsup:thumbsup Beautiful.
