All these years we thought Tiger was going after Jack Nichlaus' record.

He was really going after Wilt's!

He will never beat Wilt record in basketball, or sex!

Tiger is just lucky he didn't marry, or date someone named Lorrena! :ack

As with the death of Anna Nicole Smith, the most notable effect of all the Tiger news is that it detours the public's attention away from the administration's problems. It is overplayed by the media's sense that they must report the news that people like to hear, rather than the news that is important to their lives. A sad statement about the media's respect of their audience.

I respectfully disagree on two fronts: 1. far too many in this country know more about - and CARE far more about - what's going on re: "Dancing w/the Stars" and "American Idol" and the like than know (or care) anything at ALL about what's going on in D.C., and, 2. the public in general seems to ENJOY being spoon fed every micro detail of someone ELSE'S scandal/trouble/misery/transgression 24/7/365 (ESPECIALLY if that person is rich & famous) and will tune in to THAT before anything else. So, since ad $$$ are the mother's milk of the media, the media covers what brings in viewers/readers/listeners, I don't believe lack of respect for their audience is reflected in that. Rather, it reflects the recognition of their audience's "taste" and a catering TO same.

There's actually a 3rd (and BIGGER) reason involving the distraction factor to which you referred, but, that delves into an area wherein I (we) dare not go...

I agree with EP!

And if Tiger drove his car like EP does, maybe all of this media hype wouldn't have got started!

No, don't need them, snows only once every 15 to 20 years and when it does it is less than 1".

A convenient distraction.

Gentlemen,

Every aspect of the news that the mainstream media chooses to report upon is agenda driven from the first word to the last word. Even coverage of the weather and sporting events is colored with an agenda driven slant. The Tiger Woods fiasco would have received a lot of attention in any event but it is an especially convenient feint at this particular time. As such, I believe Ralphie has hit the nail on the head.

The Honeymoon

A couple was on their honeymoon, lying in bed, about ready to consummate their marriage, when the new bride says to the husband, "I have a confession to make, I'm not a virgin."

The husband replies, "That's no big thing in this day and age."

The wife continues, "Yeah, I've been with one guy."

"Oh yeah? Who was the guy?"

"Tiger Woods."

"Tiger Woods, the golfer?"

"Yeah."

"Well, he's rich, famous and handsome. I can see why you went to bed with him."

The husband and wife then make passionate love.

When they are done, the husband gets up and walks to the telephone.

"What are you doing?" asks the wife.

The husband says, "I'm hungry, I was going to call room service and get something to eat."

"Tiger wouldn't do that."

"Oh yeah? What would Tiger do?"

"He'd come back to bed and do it a second time."

The husband puts down the phone and goes back to bed to make love a second time.

When they finish, he gets up and goes over to the phone.
"Now what are you doing?" she asks.

The husband says, "I'm still hungry so I was going to get room
service to get something to eat."

"Tiger wouldn't do that."

"Oh yeah? What would Tiger do?"

"He'd come back to bed and do it again."

The guy slams down the phone, goes back to bed, and makes love one more time.

When they finish he's tired and beat. He drags himself over to the phone and starts to dial.

The wife asks, "Are you calling room service?"

"No! I'm calling Tiger Woods to find out what the par is for this damn hole."
