After market shocks

Penske Shocks

The Penskes are great; although, it'll be until April 20 that I try them on a track. Both T&A & Stillen have the Penskes. T&A are using the shock settings they derived from their testing of the GT during Ford's development as they were on the team. Those settings are proprietory according to both T&A & Penske. Stillen has their own shock settings. I'm not sure how much testing they did with the GT's suspension or if they estimated the settings. I do know that the T&A instruction booklet for installation is fabulous with color photos of every step (you'll need detailed instructions). They also have great info on suspension/chassis set up for the GT from their experience on the team.

I have plenty of photos but is there an easy way to place them with a post? Or should I downsize them for the site's Photo Gallery? Not4re helped me last time.

GTs & coffee in Sacramento, CA

Hey - it was nice to finally meet you Steve. That black paint is very nice!!! I think with the black GT an anodized black fire extinguisher bracket will be good. Can't wait to see it. Have fun with the GT Guys on Wednesday & tell Rich & Shadowman I said hi!

Ed

:thumbsup

How about some more pics of the lowered car with the Hoosies and Penskes. How about a nose to nose , butt to butt comparison next time you guys meet for coffee.

BTW Ed I assume that's your car. Any regrets on the clearance at the spoiler / Diffuser. Scraping, etc. I have a C5Z06 that sits real low, mostly just a track toy, but it scrapes everywhere I go. The GT starts much higher in the front so that may no be as big an issue.

Sure looks aggressive:thumbsup

lowered GT

Dear Cobra R 1339 - I will take a comparison photo the next time we are together. I lowered my GT with the Penskes to where Alex from T&A Shocks said they did most of the GT testing. He states the car's body will touch down before the shocks bottom. I haven't had that happen on the track yet. I do have to really hit dips, etc at an extreme angle when driving on the street though. I don't mind it as it handles better & looks better at the ride height the car was designed & tested at. The showroom ride height was set by Ford management to abide by their "tire to inner fender clearance mininum at full shock compression" & not by the engineers (according to Alex).

Ed,
Could you share what your ride height is - front and rear uppermost wheel arches to the ground? Thanks.

Shouldn't the bump stops on the shocks be set so that the car will not bottom out? Maybe a longer rubber stop on the shaft of the shocks.

shock travel

Black Ice - The shock should bottom, or come very close to bottoming, somewhere on the track or else you aren't using the full travel. It shouldn't bottom harshly though. Alex says the chassis will touch down first on the GT before full shock travel is used. Many race cars are set up like that. I never did touch any part of the GT at T-hill; although, I bet at the bottom of Laguna's corkscrew it might touch down on the left front splitter (my friend's stock ride height Z06 touches there).

ride height

Heritage Bruce - The distance from the ground, through the center of the wheel, to the wheel well lip is:

front - 26 1/8"

rear - 29 3/8"

Great thread!! Just found it, thanks ED!
