2013 GT 500 the best yet!

I knew I had it somewhere.

That is and eye opening warning they should have supplied us with 2 sets of times. Do they make 20” studded snow tires?

Living in Texas I have noticed the tires have a lot less traction than even those on the GT when the temps go down. At COTA when they warmed up they were pretty sticky. They will talk to you as you push the envelope. I think, as with the GT, my next set of rears (3rd) will be something different. It was 38 this morning in Houston so I didn't even take it from the garage.

Big Inch, you don't need studded tires, just pull down some of the chains from your bedroom wall.

I was just looking at a black with matte stripes beauty @ Wickstrom Ford in Barrington. Very tempting. Makes me wonder why they just didn't use the FGT brakes on the Shelby?

After COTA the best 2 things about the 13 Shelby is the Power & The Brakes. The brakes are 6 piston Brembos and I feel are better than those on my GT. I was able to brake deeper than almost all the cars at the track. After COTA I found out that the pads aren't available anywhere except Ford. Only 12 sets were shipped to the warehouse in Texas and I was able to get the first ones.
You can't go wrong with the 13 GT500 if your in the market.

I'll take your word for it, but the rear rotors look positively puny compared to a GT's. I'm betting it came down to cost though.

Cost is certainly always a production consideration for an automobile, but look at the two vehicles. Do you think the braking requirements are the SAME? The Mustang is a front engine car, the GT a mid/rear engined car. The weight transfer under braking is "likely" different. I am sure it is. So to say the GT500 brakes are puny compared to our GT's is just not a valid comparison. Apples and Oranges.

The "puny" looking rear mustang brakes have been discussed on other forums. But if you take the time to look at the 302S/R Ford factory race Mustang or other compttition only Mustangs where cost is of less importance you will see the same OE "puny" rear brakes. Why?

Because they are perfectly adequate for the overall vehicle braking required of the two rear wheels for this front brake biased vehicle. And I am sure the team development engineers and Ford Racing have reviewed this braking aspect and concluded the brake sizing is appropriate.

As usuall Indy is on top of it. Real world application is all I can fall back on. At COTA on front straight, back straight 165mph top speed back and 130mph front straight I was out braking almost every car I was behind. When the weekend started I started braking from 165 mph at the 300 sign, mid weekend I was down to 200 and end of weekend I was waiting untill the 150 was out of my vision and then stand on the brakes. ABS screaming like I was on a cobblestone road and then dive into the turn. Downshift to 2nd gear and floor it. The rearend would step out and then the traction control would take over and straighten everything up. Next track day I hope to turn traction control completely off and see if I can be faster. My fear is I will look like Dave Rowan (Texas Mongrel) as I tour the off course venue while doing 360's. haha

BTW- Just ordered the Flowmaster axle back, muffler delete pipes for the Shelby. Removed the mufflers this past weekend to get a sample of the sound and I think this will make it alot more muscle sounding.

Indy is right. My 2008 GT500 has even punier rear disks and the braking performance is great.

After Bill weighs in on any tech matter, there isn't much left to say. Excellent post.

oh yeah, ask him about women's clothes!

My good friends '13 GT500 and my FGT:

Think I may pull the trigger on one too.

Nice, Very very nice! Are the colors that close a match?

What wheels are on the GT500?

Larry

Those are the base 13/14 GT500 wheels.

The 13/14 is a special car. I strongly stick to my recommendation that if you like the car and the "recipe" it adheres to, you should buy one now.

Can't argue with that.
2014 G. Blue, wht stripe, full load, convertible on order, 4k under sticker :biggrin :thumbsup

DBK, So are you saying that we might not like the "recipe" for 2015?

Uh, I interpert his statement exactly that way.

I am sure he is bound to secrecy and cannot say much....

I'm just sayin that while there are many ways to bake a cake, some people like different combinations of ingredients better than others. Indy is a wine man. My opinion is that this vintage will be sought after for many years, and is a timeless one. I'm watching too much Food Network.

I like the way SVT works, I like the team that leads it and the backgrounds they bring to the table, and I have high hopes for their products now and in the future.

Not 4N,

Nice at 4 under sticker, that is 9K cheaper than mine since I am one of those impatient ones who paid 5K over sticker! Your is a great deal since at 5K I would do it again if that is all I could find. These cars are great.
I Just ordered a Flowmaster axle back straight exhaust with muffler delete. Car was way to quiet!
