'08 Scottsdale Rally to the Rally

Schedule

BUMPED :cheers:cheers:cheers

Gentlemen,

Our caravan to Las Vegas should be quite a sight. 30+ GTs headed for Nevada on Wednesday morning will be an absolute blast! :banana :banana :banana

The schedule of events is as follows.

Monday-arrive in Scottsdale, leave your trailer at Chip's house, and enjoy free cocktails. Drive your GT to our secure hidden underground parking at our host hotel and check in to your room at the Marriott Old Town Inn Suites. At 6:45 p.m. we will caravan from the hotel to Don and Charlie's restaurant for dinner Monday night. Separate, secure, guarded parking will be provided for all GTs while we have dinner.

Tuesday-At 11:30 a.m. we will caravan to Chip's house for a fantastic lunch catered by "Honey Bears Barbecue" along with the always free cocktails at Becks Landing's "Teddy Roosevelt Bar". Lunch will be hosted by Chip and Veronica. After lunch we will caravan to view a local private automobile collection, (I'm still working out the details on this) and then back to the Marriott Old Town. At 6:45 p.m. our caravan will launch from the hotel to the El Charro Lodge for dinner.

Wednesday-At 7:30 a.m. 30 GTs will explode to life in the underground parking garage of the Marriott, waking up every body within a 1 mile radius of our hotel. As soon as everyone is mounted up and accounted for, were off to Las Vegas baby. :cheers Maps and cell phone numbers will be provided to all participants for all events as well as for our final assault on Las Vegas.

It's going to be a great time. If you haven't signed up yet, you are literally ruining your entire life. Get with the program and make the scene in Scottsdale. Be there..... or be square.

I must say that I am getting quite excited :banana :banana :banana

Just have to figure out if I need the daily driver in the trailer or Heff's TT Gallardo :willy

Only concern is bringing my wife's parents to help with our new baby and having enough seats so they don't miss all the fun :D

Chip, planning on rolling in mid afternoon Monday. Can't wait to meet everyone :Cheers

I seem to have dropped off the list. I am currently on the road, now in Moab Utah. Thought I would do a little riding here, make my way through Monument valley, Canyon de Chelly, see some other sights on the way. But I am on the way!!! I can truly say the windshield wipers work. How much rain does this supposed desert get? Still, this car is one fantastic ride.

If I can make the time I may pass through Scottsdale a day early and take in the real SR71 Blackbird parked at Pima Air Museum in Tucson.

See you at the Marriott. Counting the list, I thought we were 45?

The last list posted was an earlier one, here is the last one Chip posted.
See you on Monday :thumbsup

Gentlemen,

Our Scottsdale Rally to the Rally continues to grow. Approximately one fourth of the total National GT Rally participants will start that momentous event in Scottsdale, Arizona. There is still time to secure a hotel reservation and join us. Missing this event will be the equivalent of passing on free hot oil massage given by Pamela Anderson in the nude.

Here's the latest list.

Chip - put me on the list please for the drive. I'm not sure how many of the events I'm going to be able to attend Sun.-Tues.? But I will confirm in the next few days.

Since Team Jeff and I are in the NW valley, and assuming we're going up through Carefree Hwy/Wickenburg - is there any way we can meet you at "mile marker xxx" to join the caravan?

Scottsdale Rally has begun!!!

Gentlemen,

Always the pioneer, FlorIdaho Chris was the first to arrive with his GT tucked inside a Trailex trailer at Beck's Landing. For the next five days we'll have a steady stream of trailers arriving with their 200 mph cargo. We are now up to 47 GTs and climbing with one third of the National Rally participants funneling through Scottsdale. :cheers This is going to be a great time and one hell of a party. One member is coming all the way from Europe to start the Rally properly here in Arizona!! :banana :banana :banana :banana

This will be a sight to see from Scottsdale to LV! Even better behind the wheel! Can't wait.

Fine Food, Fast Cars, Vintage Motorcycles, and Good Fellowship.

Gentlemen,

As our event draws near I would like to provide participants with an updated schedule of events.

Sunday, September 7.

Although the bulk of our members will be arriving sometime on Monday, September 8, there will be a barbecue at Tim Cantwell's house Sunday evening, September 7, for those members arriving early. The GT Guys are arriving Saturday, September 6 and are almost completely booked up but if you would like some work done on your GT, send them a PM and perhaps they can squeeze you in. Jason's Auto Spa will be operating out of my home beginning Friday, September 5 and may still have a couple openings for detailing work. Send Jason a PM if you would like detailing work done.

Members who will be leaving trailers at my home should call me at 602-430-4877 to receive directions or send me a PM and I'll give you my address. Members who are driving their GTs to Scottsdale are most welcome to stop by my home for complimentary cocktails or you may proceed directly to the hotel. Our separate and secluded GT parking will be on the bottom floor of the hotel's underground parking garage. Proceed to the bottom level of the garage and drive under the barricade tape to park your GT.

Monday, September 8.

Our first official event will occur on Monday night. At 6:45 p.m. sharp we will leave the hotel parking lot to caravan a short distance to Don and Charlie’s for dinner where the world's finest baby back ribs and many other specialties await you. The proprietor, Mr. Don Carson, opened his first restaurant in Chicago over 30 years ago and has operated Don and Charlie's in Scottsdale for the last quarter-century. An armed guard will watch over your Ford GT while you are having dinner. After dinner we will caravan back to the hotel or members may return on their own. Back at the Marriott, members can continue achieving their desired level of incapacitation at the hotel bar.

Please note the following. Dinner tabs both nights will have the tip added and will be divided by the number of participants. Individual cocktails will be included in the dinner tab. Members wishing to purchase bottles of wine or champagne for their table must go into the bar and pay for those separately. Everybody will pay the same amount in cash at the end of the dinner. All members should bring a large quantity of $20 bills to both dinners as it will NOT be possible to pay your tab with a credit card. There is a bank directly across the street from Don and Charlie's if anybody needs to use an ATM.

Tuesday, September 9.

Have breakfast at your leisure, go for a swim if you like, or just wander around Old Town Scottsdale. But everybody needs to be at your GT by 10:50 a.m. for an 11 a.m. sharp departure. We will be caravaning to Chip Beck's house for lunch catered by Honey Bears Barbecue. The Teddy Roosevelt Bar will be open. Food will be served from noon until 1:30. Chip and Veronica are hosting lunch. At 2 p.m. members will depart Beck's Landing for a 30 minute drive to our Tuesday special event.

Way back in the late 1950s a young man named Buddy Stubbs was one of the most successful riders for Harley-Davidson's factory racing team. Buddy's father had been a Harley-Davidson dealer in Illinois since the 1920's. He was a road racer, dirt tracker, and an off-road racer. He also worked as a stunt rider in many Hollywood films. During his years as a motorcycle racer of note he became close friends (and remains so to this day) with a young auto racer named Dan Gurney. In the mid-1960s Buddy Stubbs moved to Phoenix, Arizona to open his own Harley-Davidson dealership on McDowell Road about 2 miles down the street from my father's (then) brand-new Pontiac-GMC truck dealership. I have known Buddy Stubbs since 1968. Today, in addition to operating one of the largest Harley-Davidson dealerships in the United States, Buddy Stubbs owns the most incredible private Vintage Motorcycle Museum in the western United States. Over 130 vintage motorcycles dating back to 1901, produced by over 40 different motorcycle manufacturers are on display. Many makes you have never heard of, many you are familiar with, and a few that are guaranteed to transport you back in time to your teenage years when you see a pristine example of the motorcycle you rode in high school. The museum is located in a separate wing of Arizona Harley-Davidson and is open to the public for three hours every Saturday. After lunch at my home on Tuesday we will caravan to the museum were Buddy Stubbs will open it up just for us and conduct a personal tour for GT Forum members. Buddy will also be joining us that evening for dinner at the El Charro Lodge.

When we are finished with the tour we will caravan back to the Marriott where members can relax until it is time to leave for dinner. We will launch from the hotel underground parking garage at 6:30 sharp. The El Charro Lodge is the oldest restaurant in Paradise Valley, Arizona where it has been a landmark for almost half a century. A favorite watering hole of John Wayne and Barry Goldwater, you'll also find our next president, John McCain, at the tables here at least once each month. The proprietor, Mr. Joe Miller, loves having our Ford GTs lined up in his parking lot and tells me his entire staff is enthusiastically looking forward to “Ford GT Night”.

After dinner we will caravan back to the Marriott or members may drive back on their own.

On Wednesday morning we will launch for Las Vegas at 9AM. Leaving earlier would have us stuck in rush hour traffic so I think 9:00 is a good time to get the heck out of Dodge. This should have our spectacular LeMans convoy arriving at the Mandalay Bay right at check-in time.

I will provide all members with directions as well as my cell phone number to keep anybody from getting lost. Dress code for all events is casual. Collared shirts (polo shirts) and shorts (no cut offs, T-shirts, or flip-flops) are fine at both restaurants.

I have tried to leave our itinerary somewhat open so that members are not stressed or rushed trying to get from event to event. Feel free to comment on this schedule and if the majority of participants would like to add something I will try and make it happen.

I look forward to seeing all of you here in Scottsdale. Cheers. :cheers

Chip

sound great Chip, thanks for your hospitality.

I will be driving in from Fresno on Monday afternoon. Heading for Larry's and THE GT GUYS and will take a cab with my gear to the hotel. I will have to bum a ride or cab it to dinner. I would expect to have my ride back late Monday night or first thing Tuesday.

Looking forward as always to starting the rally to the rally from Beckland :-)

This is going to be awesome! Thanks for all your efforts Chip

Sounds well thought out and organized. I've never had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Stubbs and look forward to touring his dealership.

Thanks for doing this.

Keith

I have noticed during my approach a strange connection between bikers in general and HD in particular and the GT. I've had several pleasant chats with two wheel tourers, and look forward to meeting Mr. Stubbs and visiting the Museum.

May I say - a tip of the hat sir!
Very gracious for all you have done Chip, see you Monday

:cheers
Trent

This Is Great

Thanks Chip & Veronica for all the hard work you are putting in to this "leg" of the Rally.

What a great bunch of folks.

Looking foward to seeing all soon.

Let's only hope when the Rally takes place in Texas that we see some Texan hospitality.

Chip Beck for President of Scottsdale!

Sounds like an awesome 3 days. We can only imagine the good times while the rest of us are at WORK!!!!!
