I have it available at the pump 5 mins away for a nice markup.
I have been told wide open in a mile event it does not make a difference. I can tell you first hand in 1st and 2nd gear off the line, it's noticeable, for sure.

As my brother says "let's go dance with the animal"

If you are not having a detonation problem, is it necessary?

91 should have more energy, I believe measured in BTUs. Maybe just a fraction would help protect. Toluene may be a easier, more cost effective method of adding protection against detonation and you can get it at your paint store in 5 or 55 gallon drums.

IMHO

you need to get a tune for 100 octane to really feel the difference. Contact Torrie on this board to hook you up.

Mullet, is this something that can be done with the SCT tuner?

I had my 67 and 68 Shelby's tuned for 100 Octane then i started drivingthem too much and at $7 a gallon, that adds up quick!!!

My 100 octane tune dyno'd 35+ HP more than the 91 tune, that's if you have 2 tunes on your SCT or Diablo that you can switch back and forth.

Just a placebo effect unless you have an engine management tune for the 100 octane. Unlike numerous other forced induction cars, the GT does NOT employ knock sensors and so there is no "auto tuning" for the 100 Octane. Oh, the 100 octane does NOT have any more "energy", either... another popular internet myth.

Yes; the SCT deviced is a porting tool used to move files in and out of the gal.

If you have questions I can always assist

i assume you have a whipple? was that done on the same dyno on the same day? if so, how long did you wait between pulls?

my lighting gained 30 rwhp on the same day between pulls by going from my 91 octane tune to my 100 octane tune. this was done on the stock 1.8L supercharger with 16 psi of boost :thumbsup

Thanks Kendall!
Fans, sorry to say, octane has NOTHING to do with energy or BTU content of our fuels. Merely a comparative rating of detonation resistance. The oil companies love you to think otherwise and waste money on "fool fuels".

Oh, and hope you are not talking about the "100 octane" fuel you can purchase at the airport for recip engines. Uses the acronym 100LL for "low lead". This fuel's octane rating is derrived using a different ASTM rating standard than the typical Research and Motor octane for autos. Not the same...

If your car is tuned for 91-93 octane, you will actually lose power running 100.

You need to add more timing in the tune to take advantage of the higher octane.

For our boat engines we add toluene (instead of AvGas), purely for detonation resistance. Easy to mix, relatively safe and affordable in easy to get in large quantities.
