because I have horrible luck with cars. So I pick up the car from the dealer this afternoon after getting the fuel filler neck replaced and take it down to Discount Tire to get Hoosiers put on. Leave Discount and get 3 miles down the freeway and then this :ack

Im guessing I hit a piece of glass or metal? Any opinions?

What sucks is that its Friday so a replacement wont be here until next week and its going to be almost freezing next week so no driving the GT. Its 70 and sunny outside right now. :frown

problem of running race tires on the street... time for another one. don't plug it, replace it. sorry for your bad luck.

Maybe God for some reason didn't want you in the Ford GT this weekend for your and the GT's safety...:frown

I hope this was just a freak thing because I drove one block to the freeway and was on the left lane of the freeway for 3 miles. Didnt even see any debris.

Do you still have the "stockers" you could slap on for the wknd? Or did you have track stuff planned?

(Joe had a good point to consider!!!!!)

Sorry about the bad luck but the tires look sticky. What did the hoosiers run ya? I wonder if they are as bad as the Good Years in cold weather?

I know the feeling.. I had my car for a week and second time out I picked up a big screw in the Goodyears !!!

no kidding - mines a "bolt" magnet. First bolt was a 3/8" by 4" that sounded like a .22 when it went in. Second one was "heard" when I just left the house for Rally 1. Great start, 1/20 of the first mile and sucked a bolt up. Vegas is going to be a fun ride.

Torrie - let's strategically place orders for tires all the way down Rt 10!

Retail is around 1400 for the set I think. I bet they are horrible in cold weather. Ive just decided not to drive the GT when its under 50ish outside. Ive done a couple 360s on the Goodyears when its cold out.

I can share your pain and go you one better:

I had driven my brand spankin' new '06 GT from the truck to my garage -- about two miles. In a brilliant flash of genius, I went straight to the phone and begged the clear bar guys to wedge me in for a front end treatment. They were kind enough to work me in as the first appointment of the next day.

The install shop is about 15 miles from my house on the freeway. It was a bright, late-summer morning. "Ahh" I said to myself, "what a relief it will be to get the front end protected. I have finally learned my lesson and am actually getting my unit protected BEFORE I drive it for a couple of weeks". I was proud of myself.

I set off for the shop and all goes smoothly. I cut a wide berth around semis and other potential rock throwers. I am literally 1/4 mile from my exit when I notice one of those dump trucks pulling a multi-axle trailer in the far right lane. I move over to the far left lane. I stab the throttle, gotta get clear of that land train and make in back right for my exit. Then the fun starts...

A lone rock about the size of a large gumball emerges from under the trailer of the dump truck. It bounces once. Like guided-missle demon spawn from hell, it draws a bead on little ol' innocent me. I watch the whole tragedly occur in slow motion. I try to slow down, I try to speed up. The rock, which is now clearly possesed of an evil spirit, tracks my every move. It bounces once and it looks like I'm going to give it the dodge. It bouces again, off my front end. I cry out in anguish. I curse the dastardly rock, the truck, the trailer, the IRS, everyone I can think of.

I get to the shop, and sure enough, there is a ghastly white rock chip, about half the size of pea, right in the middle of the hood. (Yea, I know, its tiny, BUT NOT TO ME). Oh, the irony of it all. It is easily the biggest rock chip I've ever suffered on one my exotics, and it happened when the car had about 12 miles on the odometer.

Even better, I now have to postpone the clear bra application until I can repair the rock chip. So I have to drive it home without the clear bra. I stop by a paint shop and have them mix up a batch of touch up paint. By the time they get done, the sky is now cloudy. It dumps about a foot of rain on me, in my brand new GT, with my new rock chip in my new front hood. I spend a month detailing it after the rain storm.

End of the story: I fastidiously fixed the rock chip, then got the clear bra installed, and all is forgotten. Even if you could see the tiny repair (which you couldn't) the clear bra makes it totally invisible. Hope my misfortune eases your pain :wink

Man, I got a story that'll trump all of those! I fear that telling it will land me the title of "Biggest GT Idiot", so my lips are sealed.:biggrin

Drove mine last sunday for the last time untill spring, was about 23 had a blast, still.

Kumar, I am sorry about that bit of bad luck man...

Mitty , that is a great story and mine is not nearly as colorful but suffice is to say that after a lot of money and 10 months of back and forth and the nail biting that goes along with waiting ....I get my unbelievably painted GTX1!

Well, shortly after driving it around, I get a monster size chip! The beauty of it is that it was almost impossible to fix.....I used a burgundy permanent marker to help mask it and tried to forget about it before this post. I can still see it everytime I get in the car (although others do not notice)

You guys that had the flat tires: how did you deal with it? Did you make it home? If you got stuck on the side of the road did you use the sealer/inflator kit?

I'm wondering the same thing Howard.

(Larry, I searched the threads and nothing turned up.)

I called Ford roadside assistance. Car is now sitting in my driveway.

Kumar,
If this will make you feel a little better... a while back I picked up three flats in one day on my GT3. Ok, can anyone top three??? To make a long story short, PCA held an autocross on a lot where they also hold a swap meet on Sundays and stupid me ran with these people with R compound tires. The results? I picked up the first screw in the mroning, then had to pump the tire to 50 PSI before driving to a tire shop near by in a hurry before the air all got out, went back did a few more runs, then picked up another screw in the other side right before the timed runs, so I pumped the tires up to 50 PSI, did the timed runs then went and got it fixed before heading home. So I thought I survived, but low and behold, the first tire that went flat was flat again and it turned out I picked up another screw, this time too close to the sidewall to be repaired. So I ended up replacing the whole set of tires. Screws and R compounds just don't mix. But will I ever drive w/ them on the street, you bet!!!

I think the best thing to do is buy a couple spares and keep in the garage.
Most of our driving is on weekends and outside normal buisness hours so trying to find a special size tire is next to impossable.

Maybe you should switch to bicycles.:frown
