What you need to know before you pull up next to a ZR1

Pulley and tune on my car gives me 650 RWHP & 600 RWTQ

Is the GT that much heavier?

the GT is +/- 150lbs more......pulley and tune vs. a stock ZR1 will not be a drivers race. Now from a dig, who knows as traction becomes the main issue at these HP levels.

All you need to know.

What you need to know before you pull up next to a ZR1.......is that the owner of the ZR1 will look over and say to himself, "Man....I wish I had one of those" and that the owner of the Ford GT will say to himself, "One of those wouldn't be bad as a second sports car to use as a knock around daily driver". :biggrin

You are dead on SIR!

No replacement for displacement. 7.0 vs. 5.4.

You'll find that the C6-ZO6 has the 7.0 Litre displacement. The ZR1 does not have the same engine, it's the LS9 engine with 6.2L, GM engineers needed the cylinder wall thikness for he 638HP--605 Lb-Ft of torque. gentlemen, this thing is truly a menacing monster, :thumbsup, and you can put two gulf bags in the trunk:rofl

Dyno pull for an unmodified ZR1 came in at: 549.9 RWHP and 500 RWTQ!!

Stock car - Don't try it
Pulley & Tune - Driver's race
Whipple w/ 19 LB pulley - Small Grin
TT - Big Grin
SC/TT - I'm interested to know....

Of course tires, octane and tunes will be a factor in all of this. BUT, if the ZR1 boys modify like we do, THEN.......

Be Safe.

SO , my GT stock made 536.7 RWHP

If you car is as fast as that guitar monkey, not diet needed:biggrin

We have GT weights posted in the mags from 3,400 -3,485 lbs . 3485 is more accurate from what forum members have posted. I think we are +300lbs. The old racers rule was 1 hp per 10lbs. So we give up 30hp in weight. You should be much faster with your RWHP.

We also get a an EPA rating of 14/21 Plus 1 vs. ZR1 We are Greener :biggrin
0-60 ......3.2 -3.4 range
0-100...... 7.4
1/4...... 11.2 at 131.2 one of the better ones posted.

Scroll Past the Chevys to see some of our stats from one review. Notice thay rate the HP at 500 not, 550, must have been a very early rating.

ZR1 is quite a bit heavier than the Z06 so its weight advantage on the GT should be closer to ~150lbs than the 300 number.

anyone know what the rear end ratio is on the ZR1? is it 3.42 like the Z06s?

The weight advantage + shorter gearing should help close the gap against a pullied GT.

My GT with pulley / tune / Borla muffler / Stock GY tires
July > 1.888 > 60'
7.147 > 104.55mph > 1/8 mile
10.81 > 136.23mph > 1/4 mile

Sept > 1.861 > 60'
7.144 > 104.87mph > 1/8 mile
10.79 > 136.98mph > 1/4 mile All on 93 octane & the radio on :willy

My feeling with only a 3.90 gear change GT should run 10.40s or better

Oops.....I forgot to mention.......Any of you fellow GT owners trading for a ZR1 please let me know where you trade so I can buy your GT wholesale. Then keep my number so a little over a year from now I can buy your ZR1 for about $70K. Thanks in advance. Chris

My new ZR1 arrives today and I am NOT letting go of my GT. I will let you all know my impressions of the difference.:thumbsup

Great!! Be good to hear a comparision from someone who has both. :cheers

Great reading all the comparos on the two cars.

My Stock GT (plus Stillen Exhaust) pulled 557 RWHP and over 500 RWTQ on Stillen's dyno earlier this year.

For Corvette owners interested in the C6R, AutoArt has a new Diecast in 1/18:

and for Ferrari F430's, from BBR:

The comparison will be delayed a bit...just talked to the transport driver with Allied and his truck is broke down in Houston, looking more like friday. :willy

Let me know if you need me to check on your car while it's stuck here in Houston. ;-)

Seriously guys...I'm one of the biggest Corvette fans on here, but obviously the GT is a more desirable, more exotic, rarer car. Does this even need to be stated anymore?

The ZR1's main advantage over the Z06 will be in day to day drivability, since it has the magnetorheological shocks that I wish the Z06 did. That, and the CC brakes are probably the only advantages that it has over both the FGT and Z06.

Kumar, it does have the same 3.42 rear gear, but all six ratios are different, from a 2.29 1st to a much shorter 5th and 6th compared to other Vettes....hence the 20 mpg hwy rating and resultant gas guzzler tax. Redline is also 500 rpm less than the Z06.

interesting....put The Visual Test To The Two And We Win By A Walk Off Grand Slam. :lol

right On !! And who really needs a window on their hood? .....maybe to help the driver remember which end the luggage goes in? :rofl:rofl:rofl:banana:banana

GT vs ZR1

I know car nuts will know a ZR1 from another new Vette but no one else really will. However, no one mistakes a GT for any other car when they see it!

Pully, Stillen exhaust and custom tune

My car has a pully, Stillen exhaust AND cat delete, throttle body and, during the LV rally, Gil Navaraz (he has a shop in the industrial area at the track) did a custom tune on the car.

650 rwhp
625 fpt

His advice was to shift at 6,000 to 6,200 rpm. Lower than I was shifting but I took his advice the next weekend at the Silver State Classic. Perhaps he was right.

We won the 1/2 mile shoot out at 148mph.
We also won the one mile shoot out. I had the car at 193 at the mile with a bad start and only got one run (nail in the right rear tire when I got to the line for a second run). For some reason the announced speed was only 175. I have no idea what their error was but since we won, I did not inquire.

We also went through the Narrows at 135 mph and did not use the whole road. The car had some body roll and the tires (Goodyear) were biting inconsistantly in the corners but the car was not loose or tight at that speed. I plan to change tires and stiffen the car for next spring's event and go through at 140 on my way towards 150.

By the way, the car is VERY stable at 200+ mph and gets there quickly.:biggrin
