Water Wetter

Are you suggesting gallons of water wetter without the use of water? Surely not.

Water Wetter with pure distilled water is about the highest capacity coolant you could run and with excellent heat transfer properties. It provides NO freeze protection (may not be important to some) but does perform better than 50/50 and has excellent anticorrosive agents.

Yep, the suggestion was 100% Water Wetter. Expensive stuff at GT volumes for sure - and yes no freeze protection. The suggestion came from a motorcycle racer where the volumes are tiny by comparison. I guess Redline would have data on heat transfer efficiency by dilution levels. Just thought I'd throw that out there and see what jump out of the 'water'.

Bad idea. The water wetter itself would actually transfer less heat than the water. WW works as a surfactant to cut surface tension and raises heat transfer coefficient between metals and the water. It does not carry the heat all that well itself. There are very few liquids on earth that have even close to the specific heat capacity of water. Ammonia is one but would not work well in an engine.... The WW just helps getting the heat in and out of the water, not carry it. Red Line would need to be consulted on corrosion properties of the additive used on its own. I would not try it unless well recommended by Red Line. I suspect WW is made up of a dry chemical base dissolved in water for ease of mixing and packaging.

Here is a chart of the specific heats of many common liquids:

I think you're right. Additives are additives for a reason and yes, water's heat capacity is almost unmatched. I'm going to review WW's use with Redline this week. I have a call scheduled with their tech group on another matter anyway so the question is timely. This was a random suggestion from someone in the paddock this weekend. Thanks for the feedback.

Please report back what you learn from RL. Always interesting to learn new things about these products.

will do.

Looks like milk would work pretty good (see aforementioned table) and then on group runs on chilly days, you could serv up some hot cocoa.

:lol^^ I don't know why that's funny, but it is... thanks for seeing that, now go back to work, it's not quitting time for you yet.

Try mercury, the Russians love it in their subs.

Evans coolant is what I use

Its a propolyene glycol coolant premix. Very similar to the product Prestone sold for a few years as a non-toxic antifreeze.

How much would that cost, $500 per gallon? :lol

I am old enough to have experienced that a couple times now..............nasty nasty nasty stuff.

I added the water wetter to 40% Sierra in that boat closed cooling system I mentioned. Maybe that is why I saw some decent results?

Yep, didn't know my MoviPrep could also be used as a coolant. Nowhere near $500/gal though :)

And you'd get the added kudos of owning the heaviest GT ever :)
