Transporting the GT with a UHaul trailer?

I've searched and seached and have found posts where folks have considered using a Uhaul trailer to move their GT but haven't seen where someone actually has done it.

Has anyone done it? Will it fit?

Thanks.

I don't know about width but on the approach you will need to build up the ramp. When I loaded my Cobra and Mustang (both low clearance vehicles) I bought a 10' 2x10 and cut it into pieces 2x3' and 2x2' and overlapped them at the end like this:

xxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

and put the ramp on the high part. That brought the ramp up higher and gave the clearance needed to clear the break. I also used 2x10s at the front with the mustang since the front spoiler would have hit.

Note that the front of the trailer has no protection and the rear wheels of the truck you're pulling it with will throw up rocks. I wrapped my Mustang with blue painters tape but it will disintegrate if it rains. Second time I used the vinyl wrap that is used during shipping but that also failed in the wind near the top and the flapping caused some wear into the clear coat. These were for towing from Colorado to Las Vegas (and back). I would only use an open trailer like this for a very short tow. From now on I just use covered carriers for long distances.

FENZO, it won't fit. Too wide. Never tried it with the GT but with another similar car.

This is from Uhaul website regarding the Auto Trailer:
Must not weigh in excess of 5,290 lbs.
Must have a maximum outside-to-outside tire width of 79.25" Note: outside tire width over 75" must use late-model U-Haul Auto Transport (identifiable by silver galvanized color).

GT width listed at 76.9"

I would not attempt an open transport that far. If I did it would be a professional with a wrap.

I told you I'll come get it and keep it at my house till you can fly and come get it. I'll even come pick you up at the B'ham airport!!!!!

I tried U-Haul before buying a trailer. No go.

My truck has mud flaps would that save the paint?

When I moved to Idaho I transported my GTO on a galvanized U-Hall and at the time just for grins measured the GT and it wouldn't fit. When loading the GTO I blue taped the crap out of it and towed 1400+ miles without so much as a scratch.

My suggestion is to give Mike at Reliable a call at (734) 453-6677 ext 6205, explain to him you are a FGT owner and want to ship your car from A to B and let him give you a quote.

Mike is handling many of the FGT owners going to Las Vegas for the rally and they certainly know our car as they were the original car carrier for Ford to the dealers.

I spoke with a guy named Mike at Reliable today. This Mike was... let's just say not customer oriented. I'll give that Mike a call tomorrow and hope I got the wrong Mike today.

Sounds like the wrong mike this is the second post on this forum today , nobody is happy with this mike

I met a Mike once that I didn't like that much either.
