Good news. My agent said it will be covered with a modificatoin in the policy for an extra $100.00 per year (rip off). I didn't even argue. Not worth the argument.

So I have to ask as this is one of my rare moments of levity.....
How much if I remove the seat belts and the air bags.
Being candid I find it interesting that they would write into the policy "rear bumper deleted" with an associated value of $100.00; IMO this is the capitalism at its finest
Having shared this I am happy that you found the peace of mind that you needed and that your gal will now have the ass of Heidi Fleiss; they truly look stunning with the bumper removed.

The way I figure it. Anything beyond a minor tap the bumper is irrelevant anyway and with most cars having a bumper height above the GT bumper its even more irrelevant.
With the size and height of most modern SUVs and vehicles today its kinda like wearing an armor suit from the middle ages to stop an RPG. If your hit your screwed with it or without it. :eek

Picture your car in a spinning situation, and the only damage was to the rear bumper. Believe me this can happen.

It's clearly an individual decision; however, IMO the rear bumper offers only moderate protection under the most ideal circumstances, at best. I weighed that against the significant aesthetic improvement and for me, it was no contest. Off and into the trash she went.

Not a big mystery, In a high speed situation the bumper makes a big difference in the amount of damage the rear of your car can receive. If you want to take the chance, take it, but if you have an accident that causes a lot of damage to the car that the bumper could have prevented be prepared to live with it. I think the majority of us at one time or another made it home uttering those famous words, jeez, I guess it could of been worse.

Hey, I love the looks of the bumper, take it out of the trash and send it to me! You never know, twenty years from now, when folks are putting them back as original, it will be well worth having for parts. (Of course 20 years from now it won't matter squat as I am sure I will be long dead.)

In CA you can get cited for not having your bumper! However that shouldn't concern many member of this forum, since they, don't have a front plate either and have radar detector mounted in the windshield, exhaust that are too loud, headers, etc. The list is too long to worry about. Just drive the car and have fun.

As much as I love the look, personally I would not be inclined to mess with such a basic piece of safety equipment for a car that is driven regularly in moderate traffic. Just my personal opinion. I'm not saying that it's fundamental, or even effective, in all situations, but my guess is that the average person or law enforcement officer might perceive it as such. And I certainly don't think it hurts safety to keep it affixed.
Another fear I would personally have, is god forbid, someone were to injure themselves on a hot exposed exhaust.
Again, the look is awesome, and I only post my thoughts as this is a discussion forum, and not meant as a critique on anyone's decision.
