Anybody have an idea on production numbers? What about the R?

This may be a stupid question but I'm not a Ford expert like a lot of you guys. Does this mean the GT500 is dead (for now)? So by 2016 what Mustang models will there be? Will they be making the GT350 for the next 10 years like they have the GT500?

I am somewhat amazed at how this subject continues to surface. It is unlikely you can take this 5.2L engine out of a GT350 and be pleased with the outcome.

This is not your regular “type” engine and generates a number of new/unique NVH characteristics which have been specifically addressed by the Ford designers in the GT350 application. As Jamal stated in his interview, not sure if it will ever be offered as a crate engine.

According to another site, Ford's Jims Owens said the GT350 will have over the magic 100hp/liter.

That's good but I am not sure why that level might be said to be "magic".

Certainly a threshold to achieve but from recent memory Ford has done this before.

FGT (550hp)/5.4L = 102 hp/L
GT500 (662hp)/5.8L = 114 hp/L
FGT new (600+hp)/3.5L = 171 hp/L

And GM may have done this as well, but I do not follow these engines. Perhaps others do.

And the new 5.2L is a real screamer and likely as you point out based on historical data to be released at 520+ hp.

Bill, all the engines you mentioned are forced induction. 100hp/liter for a NA motor is impressive for a fully warrantied street car in the price range of the GT350. When I was growing up 100hp/liter was the stuff of legend.
