Some Q's about Tires and stuff at a mile run event

Guys, I'm running a mile style event this weekend. http://www.zrauto.ca/race-base-challenge.php The runway is 2.4 miles long.

So I have Four question's as the others will likely be answered by the organizers at the event.

1. What is correct tire pressure should be for such an event?? Any advice? I'm running the wider bridgestones, and I can't be bothered to swap back to the 'skinnier' GY's (especially as they've got very little tread left.....)

2. Is it REALLY worth it to "tape up" my car's seams? Maybe I'll just take off the wipers......

3. If 103 and 108 octane is available, how much existing gas can I have in the tank before it's safe to go to a 100 octane file?

4. Following up on Tom's thread about tire warming, how much would you attempt to warm the tires before the run?

Thanks in advance. And wish me luck!!!!!! :banana

Can't answer any of your questions but good luck on your run.

In regards to your question on octane, you want to be able to take advantage of as much of it as you can given the load the vehicle will be under. So drain it as far down as you can. Also target a race fuel with a relative stoich point that the calibration was written for.

Stoich point? Wow, I've got a relatively large vocabulary, and I had to look that up! :thumbsup

Assuming I get my 91 octane down below a 1/4 tank, and I add in 108, can I assume that my relative octane is now 103-104 ((91*1/4)+(108*3/4))=103.75 and so I could run a 100 file?

Run it down as far as possible. Do you know what exact brand of 108 race fuel you will be running ?

I'm afraid to run it too far down, as stated in another thread, my fuel gauge stopped working last week :-( It's been on the tender all week and I'm crossing my fingers it comes back.

As for the gas, probably VP racing, that's what tends to be around these parts, but I don't know for sure. I don't know how much of it's being brought up, so I'm not sure if I'll get any or not. I hope so though, I want to make sure that I beat some of my buddies. It's better if all of us get it or none of us get it!! LOL, I'm hoping to be near the front of the line!!!

Best of luck Pro. I actually just bought a 55 gallon drum of 110 unleaded. I asked the same question about how low to go too. :biggrin

One thing I will say, if you want your best time, go to the rev limiter. You want to get to at least 7K RPM before you shift. I ran with the pulley/tune last time and when I got comfortable with that my times improved. Have a great time man. :thumbsup :cheers

shift about 200rpm before the fuel cuts off. By the time you react to the 200rpm before the cutoff it will creep up a little. Main thing is to run it without hitting the cutoff. You want full gas all the time

what is your rev limiter set at?????? 7k is slightly high for a stock motor.

Mullet explained it better than I did about when to shift. :thumbsup I should have given a little more detail.

The rev limiter is set at just over 7 on the Heffner pulley/tune and my current TT. I was not comfortable going "into the red". But once I did things improved. I have yet to hit the rev limiter and have the blip. I shift slightly before/right at 7 .......... although I get to that number a lot quicker now. :biggrin :lol :cheers

i wish i lived in canada :lol

....and the man who gave me the encouragement to go for the rev limiter is heard from. :lol

You coming out in September Freddy??? :cheers

Hey Pro,
Run 40 PSI in the tires. do not worry about taping up the seams. a clean and freshly waxed car is important. This is not a drag race so do not worry about a hard launch. ease off the line and roll into first gear as hard as possible trying to avoid wheel spin. Shift at 6500 rpm. Shift quikly so your speed does not drop off. Call me if you want to disscuss . Have Fun !! B.

Thanks Guys. Brian, I may just give you a shout on Friday when I get to Cold Lake. Weather forecast is for showers. :thumbsdow Geez, I sure hope the weather man is as per usual, ie - WRONG!!!
