Ford GT Tuning Day and GT Owner’s Dinner – Friday, December 17, 2010

Event Status: 100% Torrie's Travel Arrangements booked; Dyno Reserved

A few GT owners with various performance modifications have expressed an interest to hold a dyno TUNING day with our very own Torrie McPhail. As such, we are planning for a tuning day on Friday, December 17 in Chatsworth, California. We have two cars *confirmed* so the event will move forward, regardless, but the more cars that we can get for Tuning, the more that we can offset the costs for all. The cost is comprised of the sharing of Torrie’s airfare and modest lodging expenses + Torrie’s per car tuning fee + share of the dyno renting costs at $120/ hour. If you have a modified GT and you feel like there’s room for improvement on the tune you have in the car, then this event might be just what you need. Torrie flies all over the Country doing this and has a very good reputation. As a GT owner himself, he knows a thing or two about these cars.
The first priority will be given to those that are interested in a custom tune. PM or email me if you want more definitive cost estimates…. and know that the more people we can get the lower we can drive these.

Depending on the interest in the tuning sessions, there may or may not be time remaining just to do some good ‘ol dyno pulls. It might be really fun to see several different configurations and power outputs all on the same dyno on the same day. So, if you are not interested in a custom tune from Torrie, think about signing up for a dyno pull or two. In the case of the dyno pulls, the cost is only the dyno rental charge. 2-3 cars per hour is probably feasible, so figure $40 - $60. You could think about tipping Ryan who we will use to move the cars on and off the dyno and strapping them down. He is an expert at this... as well as conducting the dyno run itself. Everyone that participates will get the actual dyno files for your run. You can download winPEP 7 software to view and manipulate these files or to make .jpg from them. A pet peeve of mine is how some dyno shops are reluctant or explicitly don’t want to share the run files, but I think they are really valuable and we want to make sure that you have them. Also, I should point out that spectators are more than welcome for the dyno day.

Finally, we are thinking about a group dinner on the evening of December 17. This is where everyone can brag about their dyno results and generally have a good time. If you can’t make either the TUNING session or the dyno session, please think about the dinner. Certainly everyone would be more than welcome!!

No better time to jump into the fray, heck even stock you can pick up good gains with a reflash.

Kendall,

My GT has not been on the Dyno Since u installed my bigger supercharger; so I am not sure what I need, a dyno session or a tune session? In any event, count me in, and u tell me what needs to be accomplished! :-)
Where is the dinner?

Sign me up dude!

Be there......or be square.

Gaby, that's a great question, seriously.... and I hope that Torrie will chime in with his opinion as well. Your car, as with most of the Whipple and pulley upgrade cars is using a "known-good" out-of-the-box tune. Generally speaking these are very good tunes - often they were sourced from respected forum members like Torrie, Jason or even Whipple. Again, in general terms, these out-of-the box tunes are probably like a B to a B+ tune for any given car... because each car has minor differences. A custom tune will almost always yield higher HP/TQ results and/or a better adherence to what the owner wants in terms of a safety margin. In addition, a custom tuner like Torrie can easily reprogram your redline - or program your fans to come on earlier to potentially have lower running temps. Custom is custom... you tell Torrie what you want and he can program the car accordingly. I'm certain Torrie has baseline tunes for all kinds of GT configurations, so he will have solid starting points to build on.

The decision is really up to you. Remember that we have Skyrex's mile event coming up.... so maybe you want to eek out the last bit of performance. I haven't heard you voice any anomolies about the tune that you have so you can really go either way. In contrast, I know that HeritageBruce used to have some tune issues that I'm not sure were ever resolved to his satisfaction. If he still has these issues, a decision to tune, might be an easier one.

Still thinking about that. Open to all input.

Kendall mainlined the point well. I have full PCM control and can build vehicle calibrations as instructed. It just comes down to what the end goals are, If someone is completely satisfied with the way their GT performs then leave her be. If you're looking to have someone dyno tune the vehicle and set it up the way you want it (for peak HP/TQ) then jump on board, let me know the specifics, and I will do just that.

I think we are going to be in on both, I just need to check the schedule to see if I can make this happen... :thumbsup

No mods on my GT, but would love to pull Atomic GT out of his garage and join you guys. I've had a dyno pull session at Stillen and it would be fun to see everyone, check out the results and if time allows, get another dyno pull to compare to Stillen's.
Torrie, would you have a tune that would be worthwhile on a stocker GT?
Bummer though, cannot do dinner...prior Christmas season commitments.
Chip, drive the 65 coupe over if V will let you!!!

For those running a "boxed" tune, I am sure than Torrie can improve upon that. Whether that the difference is significant depends on the owner. That said, if you don't currently have a SCT or Diablo tuner that can change the tune for octane, tire size, among other parameters, it may be worth the time to get one that can. That way if you do the mile and run race gas, or change tire diameters you are covered.

Most definitely !

Terry its morally imperative that you're there !

Most definitely !

Like I did not know the answer to my own question!
Count me in. I'll let all you guys blast over 200 in the Mojave Mile....my modest goal will be the fastest STOCK GT. Ha Ha.

Kinda thought that already... :biggrin schedule clearing in process. :thumbsup
