Should we all help Ray go the Extra Mile(s) in Texas...

As so many of us I've been watching the vids of Ray beating the crap out of the world fastest car (was it a Supra, a Viper - hmm who cares, it's history) over and over again, and it just makes me even more proud to own such a work of art as the Ford GT..!!

The speed achieved is just SO mind blowing and hard to comprehend, but still there is a few things that has come to my attention when looking at the car.

So here goes my list of things I believe could make Ray go even faster when come Texas time::biggrin

Aero: (Imagine the amount of air that needs to be relocated at those speeds:-)

1. Blanking off the (fake) brake cooling ducts, and making that area flush with the edge of bonnet and fog light.

2. Make the hole for the radiator smaller by blanking of the sides. The speed should easy make sure enough air gets through for sufficient cooling (points 1-2 could be done in a 1 piece carbon)

3. Side scoops could be blanked off - all that air led into the engine bay, can't be very good aero. If done in black material it wouldn't even be noticeable.

4. Wheel plates. There is a lot of speed to be found in blanking off the wheels, this is not very pretty, but if it's done like in F1 it could perhaps be OK. You take a picture of the wheel, and you apply the image on the plate (no shit:-)

If Schummi could do it become champ, who's to say it's gay?.. ME - haha

Weight: (I know that there is not huge amounts to be found - buy even so)

1. Did I spot that big ugly subwoofer in the car?? haha - that must be at least worth 5 mph to get rid off.

2. Carbon hood and clam - that is all ready being made by a forum member ain't it?

3. Doors. Give Maitech a ring, and get a set of carbon doors with no electric windows ect.

Having listed all that I do realize that Ray's car is/and must be a street legal machine, and a lot of the "cool factor" also comes from the fact that apart from the missing mirrors - this cars exterior is exactly as when it left the showroom.

But I couldn't help it.. :biggrin

Feel free to add to the list and soon "Ray The Rocket" will leave the opposition crying (well they are most all ready)

How about removing passenger seat: has it been done already?

Can you temporarily remove the side mirrors?

Im sure there are tons of ways to go faster - take out a/c, interior, windows, etc, but I think when you start going too far, you lose your street car status and you have a race car.

After I posted my points I came across the red Hennesey Viper driven by John Kiewicz that attempted the record (was it last year?)

Just looking at those vids it's clear that the car has fibreglass doors and hood - and they have even made a flat floor for it (notice when there in the truck changing the tranny)

But what is power without traction.. :ack

Gentlemen,

Team Peak Racing and Jason Heffner are way ahead of you on most of these items, several of which were done long ago. The car had no outside rear view mirrors at the Florida Mile. The car needs to remain street legal however or it leaps into the arena of pure race cars that would include Funny Cars/Jet Cars/whatever. Rest assured that a large team of very knowledgeable individuals have brainstormed all areas of this car and although there is not time to do everything, various items are being addressed in sequence as time, budget, and man power allow. I'll see you at the Texas Mile.

Chip,
I'm well aware that the team behind it all have discussed many issues in the quest to go faster, I just found it interesting to see what people could come up with on the subject...

At least dump the sub woofer for Texas..:lol

Good luck

I plan on being there too. I need to get one of those big foam fingers that says "GO RAY."

Always dump the sub-woofer!

BIG MAC, fastest subwoofer on the planet.

Perhaps it would be good if we all gave Ray the finger!! :biggrin

Chip

Didn't Johnny do that when Ray smoked him?

Personally, I think we should all chip in (no pun intended) for Jenny Craig to lighten his load. I bet if we fed him a bunch of Ex-lax just before he'd go faster as well, especially with a Johnny-on-the-spot at the end of the runway.

I think he has lost alot of weight already.

Instead of a foam finger how about a yellow tuff-glove?

My gut tells me that his gal will be super-sonic.

All the best Ray and the team that supports you

Be safe

Ex-lax is too expensive. Isn't Ray near the US border. On of the best dieting aids it to drink one glass of Mexican water per day.

Go Dawgs!

Needs a NOX bottle or a Makers Mark Markanhattan in the fist/

HAHAHA awesome thread!!

Always open to new ideas and motivation to get the car to the next level guys! Thanks!

Since Miami, we have added a cage for safety so unfortunately went the other direction in the weight department. Had to be somewhat self conscious though given the speeds that we are hitting and want to hit. Not to fear though, John at Accufab who is the master behind the powerplant has promised he had a few more tricks to more than make up for the added weight by Texas :biggrin

We are doing what we can for the weight savings... Mac Delete panel was shipped to Jason so that one is being done. Still want a passenger seat but we are putting in a matching race seat to accommodate for the cage and might save a little there...

As far as Aero... we have been throwing around some ideas and trying to figure some stuff out...We are definitely building pressure in the front of the car as seen by the tape blowing up like a balloon from 250 mph on... :confused

check it out in the video

I have been doing my part by losing 50 lbs also so please no Ex-Lax HAHA

Would love to see all the FGT family on the side lines giving me the finger as well :banana:banana

From my years in racing I know about the importance of having the air guided around the car. You should see a nice aero gain by decreasing the amount of air through the radiator and up over the car. IMHO it could be made rather nice with a panel that also blanks off those fake brake ducts..
