Replacing a whipple supplied belt for the 4.0l. I thought someone said that Whipple actually cut down a 12rib belt to 10rib for this application, can anybody confirm that shadowy memory I have in the back of my head.

Also, I have heard good things about Gates Green belt on another forum. Any thoughts on that here? They are supposed to have more grip. I don't really have a problem with the belt slipping (expect for the expected chirp on quick gear changes).

I reported on this sometime ago, it is true.... Yes Gates is a great belt for the SC. I would not over tighten the belt though, it will chirp.

I believe that 10 rib belts in lengths for the Whipple are not made, so they cut a 12 rib. Of course is someone places a large custom order anything is possible.

Thank you... a search would have yielded the results I wanted. One day I'll learn.

Okay, now I can't find the thread I was using as a reference earlier. Where did you guys hide it? Anybody know the belt size for a 4.0l with a 3.75 pulley?

Fubar, look in the manual that came with the 4.0...

from their site I found this - don't know if it's from GenI/II or the 4.0..........
WB-B2300-10 2300mm/90.5" 10-Rib SC belt (3.50, 3.75 pulley)
SCP-GT325 3.25" W200ax SC pulley/21psi

Manuel? There was a manual?

I checked their website too. I believe that everything there refers tot he 3.4l, first clue was the reference to the 3.75 pulley making 17lbs boost. I'll call 'em when Koolifornia wakes up.

I am going to throw in a little information here so that the next time I go seating for this stuff, I might trip over myself and find it.

Whipples suggests these size belts for both the 3.4l and 4.0l:

WB-B2210-10 2210mm/87" 10-Rib SC belt (2.7, 2.87" pulley)
WB-B2260-10 2260mm/89" 10-Rib SC belt (3.00, 3.25 pulley)
WB-B2300-10 2300mm/90.5" 10-Rib SC belt (3.50, 3.75 pulley)
WB-B2310-10 2310mm/91" 10-Rib SC belt (3.75", 4.00 pulley)
WB-B2345-10 2345mm/92.3" 10-Rib SC belt (4.00, 4.25 pulley)

They have their belts manufactured by Gates and must cut them down from 12 rib to 10 rib. Whipple ask about $180 per belt.

Gates offers these belts (all 12 rib so you must cut them down):

K12-0864-HD 86 7/8"
K12-0872-HD 87 3/4"
K12-0878-HD 88 3/8"
K12-0891-HD 89 5/8"
K12-0901-HD 90 5/8"
K12-0903-HD 90 7/8" - Recommended for the 3.75" pulley
K12-0911-HD 91 3/4"
K12-0924-HD 93 1/8"
***Correction: Not sure if the HD is recommended or not***

The Gates Belts can be found on Amazon for around $40

Cheers

You'd better plan on waiting a long time to make that call then...

I have used this one 2300mm/90.5" for both the 3.5 and 3.25 pulley on a Gen1, No problems. I think it would also work with the 3.25. It was a tight fit with the 3.5.

How are your cutting them down nicely? Just pulling a knife blade in a groove?

There is a local shop here that made a machine specifically for cutting down belts like this. I anybody wants one I can see about picking upa few extras.

I'm interested as long as it's not $179

Running 19# pulley, Gen 1 - which I believe is the WB-B2300-10 2300mm/90.5" 10-Rib SC belt (3.50, 3.75 pulley)

I order the 90 5/8" for you. The belt was just under $55 with shipping. I will let you know what cutting it down cost but I'm expecting it to be less than $20.

Thanks Mark - I have the Whipple "cold squeak" I need to get rid of that drives me crazy........

I've had that with bran new belts (Whipple supplied). I'm not sure if these will be any different. My tuner did adjust the Whipple tensioner and fix it one time. He actually loosened it a little.

Mark, are you still kinda working on the fuel rail replacements too?

We have found that slightly loosening the idler pulley tension will eliminate the squeak.

No my fuel system is finished. I'm sure I posted some pictures around here.

Yes you did but you mentioned possibly making those sweet fuel rails available to the rest of us.
