OK.....it is from X2Scott...............does that make a difference?

Why would it make a difference that it's from X2 scott? I don't get the question? there are plenty of good rebuilders around the country. JMO

Salvage Title Cars in General

There was a time, a long, long time ago, when I dealt in Salvage Titled Cars. I can truly say that I did not make much money with them, as they always seemed to desire something. Even with a perfectly rebuilt car, the paperwork is marked for life and trying to sell an exotic car coupounds the problem.

Save the money, take some more time, buy a no issue FGT, you wont regret it in the future.:eek

A savage title FGT can be a good buy, it all depends on the price. As Alex in Moscow discovered, the parts value alone often makes the price more palatable even if the car isn't anywhere near perfect.

Well said Iceman!:thumbsup

I NEVER use the word NEVER. Definitely most things are related to price. Can't even agree that "you get what you pay for"....uh not so much. I can be disappointed regardless what I paid.....might as well be disappointed for a lesser price lol. "Never buy a salvage title car" .... uh repaired and still at less than 50cents on the dollar please call me. "Never going to sell my Ford GT".......Mine are for sale individually and as a package. I will sell everything I own. You can tell how bad I want to sell it as to the price in relation to it's actual worth....but it all has a price I assure you..... If a person can replace the item for considerably less than what you can sell it, then for me it's a no-brainer. I'm not emotionally/sentimentally attached to anything. Please submit serious offers.:cheers

We've talked about how to handle stupid people before ..... do you need a private lesson on the subject?

I'm use to EP's slow learning so its not an issue. :lol

If you are buying for life and the price makes you happy have at it. 99% of the people who have the means to buy a car like this would avoid this car like the plague and pay more for no stories and a clear title.

You will be able to re-sell it as there is always someone who will buy anything, but it is not a risk I would take.

Just my opinion though...............:cheers

Lots of good advice here...

You need to get the car checked out by an independent - I assume the vendor would be happy for you to do this? And it really does need to be checked, you'll be travelling at high speeds and a bent one is no good to you. Is there a warranty of some sort?

If it checks out, and it probably would, you need to consider two things only:

1. Is it as such a significant saving over a comparable 'no story' car to make it irresistible?

2. Be aware that you are likely to have problems selling it, as everyone wants a clean car.

I have less concerns than others here - in the classic car market you regularly find examples of expensive Ferraris and Astons where only the door handles have survived crashes and fires etc. A bit like George Washington's axe! Nothing is original and everything has been replaced.

I just love the ads like...."69 Camaro fully restored. Late model LS1 engine, Tremec 5-spd. rollbar, Centerline wheels, Viper red clearcoat" .......restored:bs ummmmm NO!
or
1970 Boss 302 original, fully restored. Which the heck is it??:confused Now if it said...."Fully restored to original specs"...well then there you go.

And for me "fully restored" is darn near impossible. It better have the date coded bias ply tires, bias spare never down , Delco blacktop battery, ignition buzzer etc. Most cars are resto-mods...even if the mods are very few or just to update( like electronic ignition, radial tires etc).

another
The ad: "2004 Ford focus. New engine, new paint." Now seriously here. Surely I'm not the only one that thinks "what a pile of crap"? Regardless of miles, a well cared for somewhat late model car should not have new paint and/or a new engine. If I had that car I would not lie about the fact, but certainly wouldn't advertise it as a "positive":frown.

OK last one
"2004 Corvette. Hotchkiss supension, lowered, race cam, headers, 11 second quarter, short shifter etc. Again...I'm thinking "what a pile of crap"!
I know some of you guys are going to say" If installed properly...yadda yadda"...Nope, no way, no how. Took a good car and butchered it. Absolutely in no way enhanced the value.

I checked on this car this morning with the shop. The repair work was done elsewhere. While I trust X2, this car needs a good PPI since the work was done elsewhere.
