Hi! My rear clamshell outer vent cracked in half recently (I think 4G7Z-63445A64-AA). Where is the best place to get a replacement, or should I just glue it ha?

+1 on pe2unias billet vents. MANY of us have these.

Billet is the only way!

I’m sure they’re a great value, but they are pricey. Are there any more affordable solutions?

Looks like John's @pe2unia 's billet side vents are available (https://www.fordgtbilletparts.com/billet-side-vents) but the top vents are awaiting the next batch.

You could always try and repair the current vent, if it is only cracked(they generally deform from the heat) The billet vents are the best option. The plastic vents just can’t take the heat. I have most of the billet accessories from pe2unia, and have been very happy. Well worth the investment.

Did someone just say "billet vents" are pricey and they own a $500K Ford GT.... If folks knew what it costs to make parts for a small quantity of cars and continue to do so you would think they are very fairly priced. Folks making aftermarket parts for these cars are not getting rich off selling parts. Many if not most do so for the love of the car and when those folks stop, there will be no more. I dont sell them but I know what it costs to manufacture items like this and sale to a small community. Wait till you crack a headlight and either 1, cant find a replacement or 2. if he is lucky and does it will be $10K-$15K each.....

Support those that still work to keep these cars on the streets.....

That's old pricing...

Buy the billet vents. No worry then for the life of the car. Penny wise and pound foolish.

The amortized unit cost on many components is up there.

You own one of the greatest cars of all time and you’re gonna cheap out on the cost of a vent?
If you’re looking to save some money, I have some used tires that are 10 years old that I’ll sell cheap!
Seriously, though,I do have some of the cheap plastic vents that are white. If you’re interested I’ll sell them cheap.

It is more than acceptable to say something seems pricey if that is his opinion. We don't know everyone's financial situation. A dollar means more to me than to you ballers. At first blush, replacing a (what should be cheap) plastic part for $1,200 seems pricey on the surface. Now that he is learning there are no cheaper options outside of gorilla glue, he might change his viewpoint.

We all need to consider Stephen is a new owner, and we all had to educate ourselves in the beginning.

I'm just starting to collect watches and I'm going through the same thing learning about relative value. Why is a basic Rolex Daytona $25k and a Platona $100k? On the surface that looks crazy.....

The point that wasn't considered is just exactly how much machining it took on a CNC to get these kind of results. The parts are very high quality because the machine work is second to none. There had to be quite a long cycle time for each of these vents, not to mention the initial reverse engineering of the OEM parts. I would wager there was still a small learning curve to sort these out as the first few parts were machined.

Grab them whilst you can.

100% go billet.

But if you want plastic, I have my leftovers - message me if you are interested.

If John hadn’t already developed the CAD files to make these out of aluminum, 3D printing would be the way to do it now.

Has anyone 3D printed these clamshell vents before? Would be a nice lower cost option.

That's an interesting idea. However, wouldn't they have to be printed in metal? The plastic 3D items I've seen look like they would have the same overheating problems as the stock vents.

I 3d print stuff and you would never print them as nice as the oem ones were produced as they were injection molded... Then you would spend countless hours and dollars trying to prep them for paint if you 3d printed and painted them. Not many GT owners are do it your selfers, so they would just be paying to have them prepped and painted anyways. PLUS they will still be plastic that will still warp..

IMO if a person can own a 400k to million dollar car you can afford to buy a 2000 dollar or so pair of vents to replace the junk plastic ones. Hands down there is not a better option and its been a common part to replace for 20 years now on driver cars.
