I took a look at that strip a few months back Chip, the surface is good and the approach is very open with no hills or trees.

Thanks Steve. Even the runway on Catalina Island is 3000 feet, 600 feet longer than Sonoma Sky Park. But everything else looks good so that's where I'm gonna go. See you soon.

Lots of factors come into play here. Altitude, temperature, gross weight, field surface and grade, and obstacles at the runway start/end. At sea level (like Sonoma) about 2000 feet is OK but you need to hit the numbers and stand on the brakes hard. Kind of like the Texas Mile. My little plane lands at 120 mph. A lot of light aircraft won't even go 120 mph. The high touchdown speed is what eats up so much runway. At high altitude fields in Colorado on a hot day at max gross weight it can take over 4000 feet of runway to get it off the ground. It's fast but it's a terrible short field plane.
