QUESTION: FGT SUPERCAR & MUSTANG GT500 Engine Part Interchangeability

Do the Mustang GT500 valve covers fit and work on the FGT Supercar without any modifications?

Thanks in advance for info.

Fred

Spirit, I do not believe they are the same. The dimensional restrictions of stuffing the 5.4 between the front engined Mustang suspension uprights required modifications to the valve covers thus I believe they are different than the GT covers.

There have been some that did the Valve Covers off the GT on to a 500 so i think they are the same. See this post and his others about the install.

I think the actual valve/cam covers are a tad different if my memory serves me correctly. Although the head castings are the same, so the different valve/cam covers should be able to swap either way as long as room in engine compartment allows... Stan

I have an extra GT cover. Let me know if you need dimensions, casting numbers, or images.

Here Is The Plan

Larry,

Thanks for the offer, but I am trying to go the other way; GT500 valve covers onto the FGT engine.

Here is the plan:

Ford Racing has valve covers available for the Mustang GT500 at a price that is much lower [no GT tax] than those listed for the FGT.

Why put these on the FGT?

Well I do not like the color of the valve covers on my GT; due to the fact that the color clashes with the color of my car [Heritage].

So my thought is to purchase a new set of covers [GT500 covers] change the color & then put them on my GT.

Why not change the color of the ones I have?

Because all mods done to my car are 100% reversible so as to put it back to original if ever desired.

So, what I am trying to find out is:

Will the Ford Racing PT# M-6582C valve covers fit and work without modifications onto the FGT engine?

ANY ONE KNOW FOR SURE?

Thanks,

Fred

Fred, you know you would be much better off painting them RED.

The vavle covers are the same along with the heads.

Anything special you have to do for where the Dry sump hose goes into the Passenger cover?. Do you know if the bolt holes are there for the fitting that goes into the valve cover. That is what looked different to me at a glance.

Fred-
Let me help you out.

I Know For Sure.....

The GT500 valve covers will NOT fit. The covers will interfere with the cam caps which were purposefully relieved on the GT500 due to the narrower confines of the mustang engine compartment relative to the mid-engine GT.

Sorry, looks like you will have to use the GT valve covers or paint your original ones.

Thanks

Indy GT & All,

Thanks for all of the input from everyone.

Here is the verdict:

Bad News - I have confirmation from my engine builder that the GT covers are in fact different than the Mustang covers and that the Mustang covers WILL NOT work without extensive modifications [i.e. clearance issues, dry sump vent connections, PVC locations, etc., etc.] - thus not being worth the effort.

Good News - I think I have found a set of GT covers without the associated GT tax [keeping my fingers crossed] that way I will be able to change color on the new set, thus allowing me to keep my original covers intact.

Thanks again to everyone for their assistance.

Now what color to go with?

No Dr. Frank - Red is not a true Redhead color - how about Carrot Orange?:thumbsup

Fred

:cheers

BTW, what is the list price on the GT valve covers?

Ouch

BTW, what is the list price on the GT valve covers?

Ice,

They are list priced at $690.17 + tax for the set.:frown

The best price I have found from parts people out there is $530 + freight.:frown

OUCH !!!:bang

I am working on trying to get a set at a more "reasonable" price; still expensive IMO, but I do not want to alter my originals.

The Stock non fitting GT500 valve covers are $100 cheaper.
