Ayone give feedback please? I'm fitting a pulley to my car from Torrie. If I'd bought the Ford pulley, it comes with shims for the idler tensioner - Torrie's doesn't. Are the shims necessary, or is there sufficient 'give' left in the tensioner to accomodate the greater belt slack induced by the smaller pulley diameter?

That didn't take you long David!

You've been home how long?

When you said you were going to do this when you got back, I thought maybe this winter.

Being at the rally definitely gives you lots of ideas to come home and try.

Mongrel... all of that has to come off for the TT's so your question is moot! LOL. The OEM belt tensioner has a range of motion as well as a zero-position that it designed to stay at. When you put a smaller pulley on the car, the tensioner now moves over to one side and does not have the same range of motion as OEM. The KB supercharger snout (when it was available) and the Ford Racing pulley kits both come with shims that space the power steering unit out a little ways from the block to make up for the reduced size of the pulley. Using the shims will cause the tensioner to remain in its OEM-designed location.

On my personal GT and many many others before the advent of the FRPP kit I had absolutely no problems being shim less.

OK - studying the official Ford pulley installation manual (available by download from their website) it appears that the 'so-called' shims are in fact four washers that slide under the power steering pump - anyone know how thick these washers are?
Jeff (aka Grey Ghost) - this is my half-assed way of fending-off twin turbo urge! Great seeing you and Gina at the Rally.

As I recall there are two thicknesses; two are typical washers in style however 2 are machined with a nipple and a counter bore as they index and retain the power steering pump placement.

Now as Torrie shared; I too have seen no issues with the 2.8 pulley being used without spacers however the smaller 2.58 as was offered by KB needs them.

Let me know if I can assist

The shim thickness was .155 " 155 thousandths of an inch The washers are of two different types to fit power steering bolts but were the same thickness I have since moved on to 4 litre whipple and full borla headers and muffler 770 rwhp but running out of fuel @ 5500 to 6000 rpm
