I want to publicly thank Ford, their reps Mr Nicholes, Ms Hayden and their bosses for helping me through what could have been a very sticky situation regarding my GT.
DBK and a few others know all the gory details which I won't go deep into (way to long and drawn out).

In short my car got the dreaded 50amp quick charge the day I picked it up new from the dealer. This wounded but didn't kill the battery which allowed the car to start but not enough volts for the fuel gauge to work. The dealer thought it was a bad sending unit in the fuel tank and when feeling around inside damaged one of the return fuel line check valves. This caused one of the cars two fuel pumps to cavitate BUT only at half full or less. When the computer would sense a drop in fuel pressure it would bleed off boost HOWEVER the cars boost gauge and external boost gauges read ok. I don't drive my car hard so only sometimes would the car feel down on power. It would take a combination of my "getting on it" and a low fuel tank and then it ran ok, it just seemed to be down on power by the seat of the pants test.:confused
Where this gets weird is right after this dealer worked on the tank and replaced the battery, I pulled my blower off and had it polished (bling bling):smash . Soooo I thought the loss of power could possibly have had something to do with the polish job. Ie. a bad gasket or God forbid a chunk of polishing compound going through the motor:eek . I spent a ton of money thinking the problem was mine when in fact it was the fuel tank all along. I'm just scratching the surface of the hoops I jumped through trying to find this intermittent problem.

Kudos also go out to Jack at MMP for his shop was the place the actually was able to isolated the problem and with Fords backing fixed the issue. This may not seem like a big deal but this problem went on for over 13 months at 4 different repair locations. In the end it was a broken 3 dollar plastic check valve inside a $2500.00 fuel tank.

Ford takes their beatings from time to time here on these forums (halfshafts) and I think they deserved to be publicly praised when they come through. Ford could have made it very hard on me due to my trying to chase this problem on my own. When it became clear it wasn't anything I did they stepped right up and took care of me.

I am again a proud owner. The car didn't need new heads, cams, blower, computer, a new motor or owner (all very real options). Just a mechanic to except a challenge, a fuel tank and a corporation wanting to make things right.:thumbsup

Good Report on Ford

Steve - you are correct, bad news is easier to report than good news.

I too had great help from those that are/were in the GT program.
Their willingness to help me solve GT issues has been superior.

Glad your baby is finally fixed.

Jeff

That's good news Jeff and rather nice of Ford to be so helpful.

Wow ... that's some maze that you and your service personnel have had to go through to find the answer. :eek

With so much negative news coming out surrounding Ford and their situation, it's nice to hear the positive things about the company and individuals who've built and and continue to support these cars and their owners.

Thanks for letting the rest of know the outcome.

Back to the roads with full power!!

Frankly the support we get from Ford is amazing. Key folks from the Team attend our events. They love the car as much as we do.

Congratulations to you and the willing, talented members of your "team".

Howard

Thank you for sharing the chain of events and your public support of Ford is a good thing

All the best

I remember talking with you while it was going on, and all the frustration you felt. It was a very perplexing problem. Steve, I am extremely glad that it was all solved. That was really great of Ford to allow Muscle Motors to diagnose and fix the problem after Ford's own authorized dealers were clearly struggling. I think that took a lot of gumption on Ford's part to "think outside the corporate warranty rule box" in order to get your problem solved. I can't ever remember a manufacturer paying for a third party mechanical shop to repair a warranty item within a geographic range of literally dozens of authorized dealers. It really shows me just how dedicated Ford really is to help solve our problems. We should all remember this when we're thinking about half shafts. Also, kudos to Jack & Eddie at Muscle Motors for solving a problem that so many others could not.

It is great the Ford authorized an 3rd party to repair the GT!

Glad this worked out Steve. When you described the situation to me at Cars and Coffee a couple months ago it sounded like a major nightmare, but it's good you persevered and that Ford stepped up. Yaaay!:cheers

They just fixed it because Steve is sooooooooo good lookin. :biggrin

happy ending!

Steve,

What a story. I will be taking my car to Jack soon for a tune up. Glad to hear that this saga had a very happy ending!

Also, didn't you get a "code" from your OBD-II scanner?

Jay

Steve,
Did all this start as a result of the battery charger, you know a comedy of errors type of thing? Anyway, I agree with the rest, it was really good of Ford to think outside the warranty box.

It all started at 11miles and a 50amp quick battery charge. It is now well know by dealers that you have to slow charge the GTs' battery. I purchased my car in Aug. of 05 however I do believe the Ford service notice had been sent to the dealers by this time.

Jay, my car showed no code failures at all. The only clue was when the tank was low the computer would tell the fuel pumps to go to full rich or full duty cycle at WOT. A stock GT would only be in the 55% to 60% range. More than once I would get gass on my way to a shop to have trouble shooting done. As I would fill up the problem would go away and people would think I was nuts. ....well I am nuts but the car was messed up.

Steve, pretty smoooooooth - now you get to get the first Ford T Shirt, Cap and all the other goodies. I'm jealous..

In all seriousness I'm glad everything worked out.

Steve...thank goodness it wasn't that most excellent buff job on the blower/tanks to blame...DUY :lol , someone was grasping at straws...I feel better now at replicating your idea :cheers

Dave I thought Bony was twisted, But your just sick:willy
Steve glad it is all taken care of. Ford and my dealer have been nothing but great to me. Replaced my halfshaft bolts before I had a problem. $89 oil changes. Free touch up paint, And now replacing my trunk vents and painting them black instead of red. And never once did they not step up to the plate for me:thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup
