So now we've got this lightweight innovative high tech Gorilla glass and that got me thinking. How far is Ford going to go with this lightweighting process how extreme will they get?
What other innovations will we see? Ford has a close relationship with Alcoa. Alcoa developed some exclusive extrusions for our GT. Alcoa has been transforming into a specialty alloys company.
They are now one of the largest titanium fastening companies in the world. They recently landed two billion dollar plus contracts with Airbus and the US government to supply fasteners to the F 22s.
Alcoa has even a stronger relationship with Ford now supplying aluminum for the trucks. I would think this could lead to some good contract leverage for high volume low cost titanium fasteners for the new GT.
I would think lugnuts / lugbots, brake caliper bolts and some of the heavier suspension bolts and bolts through out the car could be obviously titanium options.
I would think titanium exhaust would also be by an option at this point. Looking at the Mclaren 675 LT has a lot of titanium , including an exhaust.
It's going to be interesting the amount of carbon fiber bits and titanium items that will show up in the car. How about some CF wiper blade arms.. now that's a commitment to going on a diet !!
This is getting more exciting by the day!!!
