What's up with the Italia 458? Lot's of fires..

Apparently over a 3 month period 10 458s have either caught on fire or been involved in an accident. That is a huge # for a limited production, high priced "collector" car.

Well, this is a FORD GT forum so not sure what kind of response you are looking to get here.....

Couple weren't even being driven; that NYT article mentioned a hot wire on metal coming loose during testing.

Also, it has a cap-less gas-tank with a warning not to overfill (with a cartoon man burning sticker, now added)

Probably has nothing to do with the economy and strange fires/accidents destroying expensive cars. Some cars even ending up in the ocean......hmmmm. Curious as to how many were paid for and how many owed money to a third party...like a floorman. Would love to see those numbers.

The 458 is a very hard car to get and commanding a huge premium right now. A person would not have to go to those measures to get rid of a 458. Dealers would line up to pay OVER msrp right now.

It's a beautiful car, I hope they get it figured out before to many are lost.

Not referring to just 458s.....I think other exotics have been "damaged" too. I can think of a couple.

I don't think a car with an intended run of 20,000 units counts as a collector car or limited run. The 458, just like it's predecessors the 430, 360, etc, will not hold its value over time.

Yes, one could say, buying a F458 is like burning money.

I lost my 1986 328 GTS to a fire also. Lesson learned - don't add Nitrous to a Ferrari, but okay to bolt-on HUGE Whipple to Fords. hehe

The 458 is a stunning looking car and a great shame to see a few of the early ones destroyed.
