OMG !!!!! What a Fabulous Day in Carlisle, PA

My fiancée and I decided to take the 2 hour drive from Philadelphia to attend the 18th Annual All Ford Nationals in Carlisle, PA ..... and what an incredibly memorable day it was. I located Pete S., who as always was most gracious, and accommodating, and who in turn hooked me up with GT Joey and that's when the fun really began.

Although my primary goal was to dyno the car, I failed to consider that the rear diffuser would need to be removed. I'll spare you all the details other than to say it took quite a bit of coordination and persistence to accomplish; special thanks to Pete S. and GT Joey for their assistance.

Well it was 102 degrees so the 625 whp I was hoping for wasn't in the cards ..... but a crowd of hundreds gathered and waited patiently in the hot sun for big moment. And the moment I'll never forget was when GT Joey brought Fred Goodnow to the dyno area for the event. What a gentlemen and total class act Fred is. I was thrilled and honored to meet Fred and have an opportunity to chat with him about the GT and a host of other topics including his current projects at Ford.

With the tension building, the time had finally arrived and the crowd was bristling with anticipation. The GT flexed its muscles and roared to 6500 rpm filling the air with ear shattering energy. When the noise level subsided something happened I never would have anticipated .... the crowd began to cheer and applaud in appreciation for what they just witnessed. Fred put it into perspective when he said “it gave me the chills” and “that is the kind of thing that makes all the hard work worth while.” I thanked Fred for the happiness and excitement his extraordinary efforts have brought to so many enthusiasts and we had a few fun moments reflecting on the day's events.

I promised GT Joey I would post something tonight so here are three photos and a promise to post the video of the dyno run within the next few days. GT Joey’s Son took quite a bit of video so he may post a link before I do but either way we’ll get something on the Forum ASAP.

As promised, here's a link to the video which I posted on You Tube. I tried to edit my original post but had no luck doing so!

There were clearly a host of calibration and data reporting issues which need not be expounded here. The point is the car performed admirably and the crowd showed their appreciation accordingly.

Awesome !! :cheers

Fred is the best!! Every Ford GT owner should consider themselves lucky if they've met him, and duty bound to try to meet him if at all possible.

Did you get him to sign your car? He usually puts a personal touch on it. Does look like he's put on a few pounds though.

Great story/pics. Looking forward to the vid of your dyno run. :cheers

Looks like fun!

Thanks for sharing.. you got to hang with some great characters..I guess you'll be adding " Bubala "" to your vocabulary , Who loves ya Joey ..:biggrin

Well how much HP did it make in the heat?

The data was ..... well a mess to say the least, but that is in no way a reflection of my car and its true output; Fred's comments and the crowd's reaction told the true story. I/we could disect and debate the data six ways to Sunday but that would detract from the spirit and intent of this post. I'll post the chart later today; you'll see that there are some significant problems with the data but I can assure you not the car!

Joe,
Nice U Tube, I watched the whole damn thing, hoping that we could get a better shot of the red head with the black bra straps... I see you used the same hand model that Shadowman used and he was accomplished on several instances including his fingers in the shot. Good run, but next time lets see some chics, not a bunch of pot belly shirtless white guys who haven't seen sun on months :)
Seriously, good numbers.
Cheers,
daniel

Here's the data

Sorry I couldn't edit my original post to reflect the addition of the video link and this data.

Anyway, here are some of the issues as I see it. To reiterate, my car has a 2.7" pulley, HP (Tony G) tune and FRPP long-tube, rear-exit headers (no cats).

1) My car cleanly and convincingly walks away from a bone stock GT. SOTP wise, it's a totally different car vs. pre-modification performance.
2) Tabular data shows power and torque to be pretty much the same, yet the graph shows what I assume to be whp at 650. If that is an accurate assumption, then the peak torque would be 590 lb. ft. which seems about right.
3) Humidity is recorded at 13%. If yesterday wasn't 100% rh I'll eat my baseball cap.
4) Two other people that had their cars dynoed earlier in the day approached me about what they felt were erroneous results (too low).

I said I didn't want to turn this thread into a debate about dyno results but I guess that's what I just did.

All opinions welcomed ..... joe

I think we can agree that each dyno will report different numbers even if the temp and humidity are the same. The dyno is good for a before and after check to see the results of modifications. Always interesting to see. But, races are won on the track and not on the dyno machine. Still great post, now if you have some vid on that red head, please make my day. Thanks Joe.

The reason I was curious was because my cars HP gets killed in temps like yesterday at Carlisle.

Really nice meeting you guys Saturday. 100 degrees + 100 % humidity + 200 people sucking the rest of the oxygen out of the air will definitely affect your dyno result! I'm glad the turnpike seed limit is 90 hey 'Joe Speed'

Just got in the door my friends. Had a model A charity run in 100 degree heat :eek well worth it though. Anywho after 3 GREAT DAYS IN CARLISLE , WHAT CAN WE SAY.........
