Okay, I give up. It really should just be the Ford GT40 now

Just a historical note. I think you guys are getting upset for nothing. If I recall from my reading the GT40 was not originally called the Ford "GT40" and its official reference was originally the "Ford GT" but when the press having informally referred to it as the GT40, becauase of its height somewhere down the line it led to that tag sticking. The unofficial reference became the official unofficial name for the car and what it commonly became known as :willy

Anyway I think "Ford GT" is actually correct from a historical, technical and official standpoint then and now.

I think the above is right but would love to be enlightened if wrong.

That is my understanding as well. Now that the Ford GT has been out there for awhile, and satisfies the lawyers, let history repeat itself and let it be the GT 40 once again.:thumbsup

Or maybe the "GT44" :thumbsup

Several forum members replaced their side stripes with one reading 'Ford GT 40' and 'GT40'. There was a thread on the supplier a year or two ago.

Do a search. Meanwhile, I removed my side stipes.

'Never could 'figger' out the people who looked right at the "Ford GT" logo on the rockers, READ IT, and then asked me, "What's a Ford GT?" :tap: :bang :box: :beer2: :beer2: :beer2:

Perhaps they be "Demecrats" :eek

I believe a lawyer ruined it for us.

Some guy bought the rights

Then it'd be a businessman that ruined it for us...

j/k

Arizona owners agree.

GT40 :cheers

Here is a link to the posting I did about names for the car - was a while ago (March 06), so then I cared, now I don't :biggrin Has some information about several names that Ford was going to call it.

http://www.fordgtforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1170&page=4

The name comes from what people call it. For most owners, it is obvious. It is NOT GT, GT-40, and anything else. It is a GTGT. :wink

What did I call mine

Well, here it is ...................
