Finally figured out that you cannot get 707hp to the ground without slicks, so sent the Hellcat Charger to a broker to sell.
Filled the spot with a 1970 Boss 302 a friend had owned for 6 years. It’s a 33k mile, Marti Report beauty ! My first Mustang. Very tight, but does remind you it’s 49 years old. Getting a few tweaks at Dallas Mustang, then ready for cruising.
The sound of solid lifters makes my day.

Oh yeah, solid lifter is hard to beat! I had my Boss restored and when I got it home, nothing beats that tap tap tap sound! Especially with the hood open and just hearing it! And you go around the back and get down and hear the stereo sound of the exhaust pop pop pop! WOW, I think I will go to my garage and fire it up now! Then fire up the 67 Hipo with its solid lifters! MUSIC!

When I was young, I had a 55 T-Bird and of course they also had solid lifters. I was 17 years old and got it in my mind that the lifters needed to be tightened, thus I "adjusted" them so the "Lifter noise" was gone, purrrrred like a kitten, but overheated like a sick animal! LOL, just one of the many stupid things I did with cars at 17 and up!

Yes forgot to say, Congrats! Bosses are a bargain right now! Great car! I bought mine just before all the BJ hype and it went to 5 shops before I could get anyone to work on it, it was a nightmare, it was way too long of a wait, but it was worth it! Fun car to drive and yes it is a old car!

Thanks for the comments !

This car was built on October 1969 at the Metuchen Plant, and was delivered in Central Canada.
Options were:

Corinthian Vinyl Seats
3:91 Traction-Lok Rear Axle
4 speed Close Ration Manual Transmission

The good news is, my buddy had the motor rebuilt, new clutch, brakes and suspension work done during his ownership, so hopefully will have some major service free years.

I will do that as soon as it gets out of the shop.

They found a broken shock, hence the rattles up front, so new shocks all around.
Found the plugs not gapped properly, are adjusting the solid lifters, and getting her timing right.
Sending out steering box for a rebuild, should tighten things up there.
Radio not working was just a matter of plugging in the antennae. Thinking the last shop that put in a new heater core might have overlooked that minor detail. Not that it will be on much, but we do have good sports talk radio on The Ticket here.
New 3 spoke wheel with black chubby rim replacing the straight across Ford skinny wheel. I know, not original, but will keep the old one in case I do any serious judging shows.

Cannot wait to blow some soot out of that motor !

The story continues. Wasn’t running like I thought a Boss should, so I took it to my buddies mechanic who rebuilt his ERA Cobra’s 427 Side Oiler recently. Found a kinked fuel hose, timing off, rev limiter set at 5,500, it had been straining above 5k, now pulls hard to 6,500. Huge difference! Took out Mobil One which is bad on old cams, and put in some racing oil that includes zinc, (news to me). Now pissed at previous shop that screwed this stuff up.
Just tried to upload 2 iPhone videos but one is too large, and the other doesn’t have an allowed extension?

I use non-synthetic Rotella in the old cars. Add a bottle of Rislone for Zinc and Phosphorus additives.

Boss 302 is one of the best sounding small block V8s of all time. And they handle great. Miss mine. Enjoy!

Congrats on the Boss 302 purchase. I will sell every car I have one day but my Boss 302 will always stay with me. After over 40 years of ownership still puts a smile on my face when I take it out for a drive.

I wonder what they charge for this racing oil!
I use rotella on my formula firebird, rotella has zinc in it needed to lubricate the guides and other components in older cars , but not in the boss. I have been using castrol gtx 20-50 for the last 20 years.
