Hello everybody,

thank you for letting me join this forum!
I am a new owner of a European 2005 GT, located in Germany.

I always wanted a GT or GT40 (haha for sure), so it planned for the long term all the time, but not now.

Originally i placed some beds on a BMW M1 at an auction in Italy, which I lost.
As there was a second vehicle I was interested in (the GT), I choosed to just go in until a valuable price point, without ever have a look at the car.
Surprisingly I won, as I thought, the auction would end at a much higher price. And here we go. I think it is a good catch at this price point. As you know, we have officially only 101 GTs here on the continent. So it is always a little of "take what you can get".

Here is a link to the car: https://bid.broadarrowauctions.com/lots/view/1-AJO4CV/2005-ford-gt

For me the perfect comination (blue with the BBS) and also a PERFECT match with the livery of my CSX4000 Cobra (see profile pic). It has nearly 20000 miles, which makes it look like a drivers car on the first sight.
But i found out, that this one got auctioned back in 2015 with 18000 miles, so there was obviosly not much movement the last years.

Here is what i have planned so far:
  • Get the car to my place  The auction was on Sunday and it still sits down in Italy.
  • Do the main checks all around (brakes, light, tires, overall condition) and see, if there is something obvious to do
  • Exchange all fluids
  • Change of the oil pump belt and tensioner providently
  • Replacing the battery if not already new and check the battery ground
  • Check the axle bolts. Do you guys prefer the Accufab kit or original parts? Is there an original Ford kit with a part number?

I would be very glad to hear your opinion about the car.

Hi Thomas,

We've been in touch by email recently. Congrats on the car.

That car was originally supplied to a French customer (who lives in Belgium) - I have the original order documentation which I can send you copies of for the history file if you want.

I would definitely check the dates on those tyres - old Goodyears are very hard.

Best regards,
Dave

Hi David, thank you again. I really appreciate your help. I would love to get every piece of document of the car.
Yeah, they look like the tires at the 2015 auction. Of course we will change them. Also all other standard service parts as spark plugs, oil filter etc.
I have to check out if i can get and go for Brigestones here in Germany. It depends on what kind of allowed dimensions will be stated in the future German papers (You know our TÜV).
I wil also look at the brakes. Do you have brake discs front and rear in stock in UK?

Ah the rain light, side markers, quieter exhaust, fun to see one of the 101, and see the small tweaks that were required.

ENJOY the car, and welcome here.

Thank you! I'm really looking forward to how "quiet" is it in fact. But nevertheless, a quite GT is better than no GT :)

Thank you all!

I was with Ziehl-Abegg for 15 years (Kuenzelsau, near Wurth factory). Beautiful area!

Ich bin gestern von Frankfurt nach Hause in die USA geflogen. Wir haben zwei Wochen im Schwarzwald und im Elsass verbracht.

Neuer Freund, Glückwunsch zum blauen Ford GT!

Welcome to the Forum. I also think you got a good price for the kilometers.

First advice: Just drive the car! It's a pleasure to drive exactly as it came from the factory. Learn about it and how you use it. Put 5000 or so kilometers on it before you think about changing anything. Before you change the Goodyears, go do some burnouts and donuts in a parking lot or where the Deutsch Polizei won't bother you. Get a friend to take videos!

You mentioned the brake rotors--do you think they should be replaced? The brakes on these cars were designed to stop the car multiple times from over 200MPH/300KPH, so in normal use they last a LONG time. I have over 90,000 miles/145,000Km on my car, and the original brakes are not worn out yet. That includes a handful of track days too.

Nice. I Hope you enjoyed the time here. You were here for work? This is not far away from me, but near Stuttgart (Mercedes and Porsche area :ROFLMAO:)

Hi Pete, thank you for your advice. This is exactly what i want to do. Just drive the car. But, as far as i can tell from my cars and the spare part situation i will sleep better with some brake discs in my shelf. As mentioned above i live near Frankfurt with Autobahns A3, A5 and A45 just in front of my home, so breaking at 200 mph/300 km/h is daily business on the way to work :ROFLMAO:

I know that the GT is a very reliable car compared to other supercars older, newer or same aged. But as a car keeper, it should be better to have some fitting discs, spark plugs, belts and so on.

I will definitely destroy the current tires from the day on, when i know about the overall condition of the car and i have a licence plate. The German Polizei would say nothing. Also the local TÜV guys. The problem is our Ministry of Motor Vehicles (Kraftfahrtbundesamt or KBA, sounds like a Secret Service). ONCE you have a plate, much more things are possible. Everyone from Polizei loves such kind of car (if it has approval from KBA)

Servus mein Lieber. Hast du Urlaub hier gemacht oder kommst du aus der Ecke?
Schwarzwald ist Deutschland! Bestes Bier.

Three to five times a year for about a week each...loved the area. Visited Zuffenhausen/Stuttgart a few times. I used to do the (I think it was) A81/A3 (Heilbronn to Frankfurt) at max speed on almost every trip.
