First off I want to say that this is a great forum and was extremely helpful in deciding to take the plunge on a car that I wanted since I first saw the concept.

Unfortunately I was one of the morons sitting around waiting for them to depreciate for the last couple years and bought myself a couple vipers and then a car with no soul (997TT) to try and satisfy myself, it didnt work and I finally just said to hell with it and took the plunge.

I got a 2k mile PERFECT yellow/black 06 with everything except calipers, which I may want to do in yellow anyway. Its the color I always wanted, matched my first viper and my boat and made it easier to pay too much once I let my emotions get involved.

The only thing I need to do with the car is get the clam shell slightly adjusted on the drivers side latch, it has to be closed a little harder than I think it should for the latch to grab other wise I get the door ajar light. Is this something I can do myself with some online instruction or do I need to get it to a pro?

I am planning on modifying the car rather quickly and after browsing and searching the forum for about every hour I have been awake for the last week I am still left with some questions.

What kind of power, 1/4 mile times, 60-130 times will the car pull with a pulley/tune/exhaust setup? Ive seen what they do with just the pulley tune (10.90 @130 ish) but couldnt find anything on what happens with the exhaust (I think im leaning towards the accufab)

What do I pick up if I decide to go the 4.0 whipple route with the same exhaust and run a 21lb pulley? power, 1/4, 60-130? and does anyone have pics of the black one on a yellow/black car?

Are there any driveability issues with either setup and is anything else needed to run either setup reliably?

I live in South Carolina close to a shop called amazon racing, They helped me build a very fast lightning f-150 way back in 01 and then an even faster 03 cobra right when they came out as well and are pretty well known in the worst of fast S.v.t. stuff. I am taking the car by monday or tuesday for a baseline dyno pull and to chat about mods.

Thanks in advance for any input

My drivers license is gonna be toast!

Hey congratulations! Beautiful Car, you will not regret it one bit. :thumbsup
I had a 4.0 Whipple and absolutely loved it. I just always wanted a TT and ended up with one of those.
I have seen tremendous results with the pulley tune guys also. The really important thing is to get the right tune with the path you take. As much as I know you have a local shop, I would highly recommend one of the approved vendors here on the forum as they have the experience to match the install and tune for a fast, safe, reliable GT.
Sounds like you have had good experience with cars but be really careful with the GT and cooler tires and temps. Lots of people get lulled into too much confidence by the capabilities of the GT and are surprised by how much more power it really has.
I am sure there will be some replies that will give you the performance data you need.
I look forward to seeing you at one of the events.:cheers

YES! I wont get on the car any until things are at temp. The original tires on the car still have tons of meat on them and ive been researching new ones anyway, 5 year old tires dont really make me feel warm and fuzzy inside. It seems everyone goes to the bridgestones but I have read 3 different sizes for the fronts and cant figure out what to do.

I would love to TT the car but I just cant justify it, I wont be going to any events or anything I just like to go fast on occasion and the bang for the buck really seems to be the pulley/tune/exhaust, splurging to me would be the 4.0

Let me know how you make out with the clambshell adjustment as mine has been in the same as yours for as a long as I can remember , I too think I have to close it to hard , I feel like I am going to brake something when I close it

Rob

If you have the 05 type clamshell bumpers then they can be easily adjusted be loosening the lock nut and turning the rubber bumper in or out. If you have an 06 spring type bumpers they should auto adjust, so if the clamshell isn't closing correctly you may have to adjust the latch.

the car is an 06 produced in jan. I can post a pic if needed?

Then the bumpers are spring loaded and self adjusting. You should be able to close the clamshell buy holding it about 12-15" from closed and pushing with moderate force on the middle of it near the top (forward edge). When closed if the roof lines up with the clamshell, no adjustment should be needed.

Many have changed from the 05 to the 06 spring bumpers. I chose to stick with my 05 types. The plus is I don't have to fight with the 2 springs to close the clamshell. The minus is that when the gas struts weaken, the clamshell sometimes doesn't stay open long enough for me to open both secondary latches.

The Bridgestones are definitely the way to go. Way better than the Stock Goodyear in ride, much more quiet, and traction is great. There is a tire thread that covers much about tires. Kendall at Cooltech had me get these and I have been nothing but happy.:banana:thumbsup

Rear - Bridgestone Scuderia RE 050A 345/35 ZR19

^^^^^ mplv, like I said on the 6speed thread, these are the tire sizes to get.

Good to see you here on the GT Forum. Undoubtedly the best forum on the net for GT owners. Congrats on your new ride.

To fix your clamshell latch.

1. Put some tape around the perimeter of your latch mechanism so that you can remove/replace it into the same location.
2. Remove the latch and put a small thickness washer under the mechanism (under at both screw locations) to lift the assembly slightly.
3. This is a quick-fix and you should NOT use a very thick washer as it will cause misalignment between the clamshell and roof. However, for stubborn closing problems, just this small tweak will cause them to close easier.

Hope this helps.

This is what I am going to right now as we speak. I am lowering the car 1.25" in front and .750" in the rear.
I went with a Gen II whipple for a bit more torque down lower compared to the 4.0L
I also repainted my brake calipers from Gray to Red and had the stenciling painted on.

I am sure you will love the car. Even Dyed int he wool Chevy guys have to give you the thumbs up!

Oh, don't forget to become a owner/member so you have access to the entire site.

I definitely don't want to lower the car my favorite place to eat has huge speed bumps!

So does anyone know where I can find the answers to my performance questions? I'm going to post a pic of my latch setup later

Acceleration times are going to be largely dependent on driver's skill as it is a balance between best acceleration and wheel spin.

All Numbers are approximate - everyone will chime in with exceptions but these numbers are in the general ballpark from our experience.

OEM car 550 Engine HP (Advertised)

OEM: 500 RWHP
Pulley/Tune: 600 RWHP
Whipple w/19PSI Pulley: 700 RWHP
Whipple w/21PSI Pulley: 750 RWHP

The Whipple numbers are dependent on the tune and IAT2. I have seen more HP on some than listed here.

Also you left out the TT systems, their starting HP is way above a Whipple's top line number in any configuration.

For all you newbies.
Welcome!!!
The car is even better than you think!!
Use the advanced search mode .You will find some real treasures!!
I must say the most fun you can have with a Gt ,is coming to the rally !
Read up on the past rally posts and enjoy the pics.It is truly a blast !!

What did I tell you? Man, I should read palms....

Also, as you explicity stated that tt were not of interest to you, I omitted the numbers. Damned if I do, damned if I don't.

So I guess an exhaust claiming 40 hp would be on top of all of those numbers. Thanks for the input, it looks like the whipple is good for another 150rwhp the way I intend to run the car.

My Gen 2 Whipple with Ford Racing exhaust put down about 740 rWHP.
Before that, with a pulley and tune and same exhaust, I put down around 600hp.
