New GT effect on Values

There is a distinction that I think has to be made. Everyone is referring to this new car as "the new Ford GT". The real description ought to be more of a "new GT class vehicle from Ford". I think that the chances of it, for a variety of reasons, closely resembling the GT40 or Ford GT are slim. I thought it was stated at the Rally presentation by the team that the 2007 rules made the car we know a matter of timing, and that production in 2007 and later would have had disappointing impact, especially going from the shape in 2005/6 to something later. It may be "inspired" by the GT40, but I think it will deviate more than the middle age spread our girls got.

My 2 cents.

I find that when a historical car/ special car is re-introduced it also re-invigorates the market. That is what happens with every Halo Ferrari and what happened with the 918 intro. Cars people have forgotten are now cool to own.

The Jaguar F Type introduction has invigorated the old E Type market...Etc.

Being that the average price for low mileage GT's today is about 300k, a new GT in the 350-400k range could negatively impact pricing of the current gen GT, for a time anyway. Gulf color GT's are getting 400k+ today...so can that really be a sustainable number, if a newer, better GT comes in around that range? Long term, the current gen will continue to gain value...but could get hit in the short term, if there even is a new GT about to hit. That's my opinion, FWIW. Opinions are like assholes; everyone has one.

I would think if Ford makes a new GT, a decrease in price is in order. Better looking,.....

I don’t care about value! The only value for me is enjoyment!
I only care about when I can get in it and drive it!

My guess if indeed ford plans on going back to lemans, there will be 2 versions. One for street in $250 range, and one for track alla gt 350r and Ferrari challange cars, will be interesting to see!!!

Mine is a rather high miles car..about 18,000 miles since I do drive the thing.

So I suppose it should be worth around 215-220..not bad considering i've owned it 7 years and bought it from Shelby at list 167k.

So Cal
Ford should not name the new car "Ford GT". in that case there's a high probability of no negative effects on our current marvelous cars.

I would be surprised if the new GT comes out looking like a modern version of the 05'06 - The current Dot requirements will most likely not even allow the same style doors ( due to side impact) , new bumper, requirements, etc. I would also think they are going to go with some sort of automatic tranny, traction control, etc. losing a lot of the raw ( thrilling) driving experience. It may be a GT but it won't be the same... Now whatever that means for the value of our cars? time will tell...

If the new GT is a retro styled car it will kill the value on ours. At least it would for me as a buyer... unless it is cheaper or somehow 'less than' our GT in a significant way.

You can't compare a car with a 106 unit production run to one with a production run of 4,038.
