Motor Mount Failure?

My car has a slight vibration while idling.

My Porsche-BMW mechanic says it feels like a failing motor mount that frequently fail, he says, on the German cars at fairly low miles.

My car has 15k miles.

I'll ask the GT Guys at the rally, but just wondering if that has been an issue for anyone.

I really doubt it.

Thanks

I have to agree with Kenall.
I do not believe I have ever heard of anyone posting this type of difficulty in 6 years.

mine failed, but then again I did have over 60K miles on it at the time. it would be pretty obvious if they failed, just look in the rear view mirror as your driving and give the throttle a good stab, if the motor jerks a lot then chances are the mounts maybe be broken.

Thanks soroush!

I have now updated my records to - 1

And agree it would be pretty easy to diagnose this type of failure by torque loading the drivetrain and watching to see if the engine block moves at all.

Np Indy!

the rubber in my motor mounts were cracked, made me wonder if having an aftermarket exhaust running close by the mounts may have any long term effects, it seemed that mine were just cracked from age but I wonder how much repeated heat cycle has to do with it!

joehand1.... idling or at 2K RPM....

search "rattlesnake" here.... My vibration was a PS pump....

Only at idle..very smooth at 2000 rpm.

Was that like yours?

OK, I read about the "rattlesnake" noises and no, I don't have any problems like that....in fact I think it's fine, just a slight vibration at idle.

There is no problem when applying power causing a problem as was stated by Soroush earlier in the thread...Hopefully it will stay that way.

Thanks
